At Booking.com, we are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join the Cloud Platform team in Central Technology. Our mission is to provide the foundation, building blocks, training, security & compliance capabilities, cost management capabilities, enablement & operational support that allow all workloads to be built on one cloud platform in AWS. We will provide a platform and toolset that enables our customers to realize the speed and agility benefits of the AWS platform, providing access to a rich ecosystem of technology services spanning from infrastructure primitives to data and machine learning, to security, quantum computing prototyping, business applications and more.

We will provide great support for our customers through the journey for building on AWS, provide a frictionless onboarding experience that enables builders to build on day one, provide continuous support through our cloud enablement teams who will also continuously maintain and expand the library of building blocks available. We will ensure that public cloud is secure and compliant by default and available for workloads of all regulatory scopes.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you are responsible for leading a group of teams who work on the business and tech delivery of the Booking Public Cloud Platform. You contribute and communicate our vision in close collaboration with your teammates. You put our customers first and you are a team player. You grow and coach engineering leaders. You unlock the creativity of your team and inspire them to build the best for travelers, partners, or internal clients. You are comfortable with ambiguity, but also a great learner and a leader who drives ambiguity down. You take end to end ownership for your area. You lean heavily on iteration, and you believe failure, and failing fast, is a part of building great travel tech. You break silos and you work closely with the product leaders of your team and with the engineering leaders across Booking, to ensure we are always working towards our vision.

This also includes:

  • Leading a growing group of agile engineering teams
  • Coaching and developing engineering managers as well as team members, focussing on top talent and talent that needs senior mentoring for growth
  • Attracting, hiring, developing and retaining software engineering talent from around the world
  • Organizing the teams' structure to achieve strategic business priorities
  • Creating strong partnerships to drive multi-functional projects forward
  • Acting as an intermediary for the needs of your engineering team
  • Managing the performance of the teams and individuals reporting to you

What you'll bring:

  • Hands-on experience in software and/or systems engineering (8+ years working in technology)
  • Experience in managing multiple teams
  • Demonstrable experience in shaping and leading software engineering functions
  • Experience leading directly a team as well as through others
  • Expertise with and passion for working on highly reliable, highly performing and highly compliant e-commerce platforms and services
  • Independent, pragmatic, and proactive work attitude
  • Experience working on large scale software products is a plus
  • Experience with site reliability engineering and developing on cloud or hybrid platforms is considered a plus
