The Opportunity...

As the Engineering Manager, you will be the controlling mind providing the direction and leadership of all activities associated with design and engineering for a discipline over the full delivery life cycle, with a particular focus on ensuring delivery to plan and mitigating delivery risks, taking 'best for Project solutions' where necessary. You'll be responsible for a mechanical discipline within the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC Programme scope.

As the Engineering Manager you'll ensure delivery of design and engineering is performed in accordance with all safety, quality and cost parameters to meet the needs of the Project.

What you'll be doing...

  • Providing direction and technical leadership taking an end-to-end vision of the engineering inputs needed on the full lifecycle from start of design to start of Commissioning for the discipline so that decisions are always taken having the perspective of the whole Project.
  • Responsibility of timely delivery of design from various designers enabling manufacturing, handover of the manufactured design ready for installation
  • Preparation for construction activities and resolution of technical issues during construction as the technical interface with the construction delivery teams, and finally collation of this installation scope for commissioning.
  • Prioritising, taking decisions and resolving technical issues, engaging the relevant technical authorities including the Design Authority when the HPC Safety Case is potentially impacted.
  • Responsibility of end-to-end delivery of the configuration management (including the control of design change) and maintaining quality of data in the configuration management tools to avoid scrappage/rework and the right lifetime quality records
  • Controlling the scope and spending against the Responsible Designer contract and the timely turn-around of contractual correspondence linked to engineering issues.
  • Working in an integrated Alliance team with the installers aligned to a schedule and priorities defined by the Senior Project Manager.
  • Delivering to plan all engineering deliverables, through collaboration and support with relevant stakeholders.
  • Taking decisions on Technical Acceptance of design handovers and providing the Senior Project Manager with an evaluation of remaining risks and schedule /cost impact related to maturity and Open Points
  • Supporting the Quality Management Lead by driving the technical resolution of manufacturing NCRs.

Who you are...

Your background may include some of the following:

  • Track record of delivering technical leadership in projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment, whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
  • Demonstrable awareness of integrated management system and the different policies, procedures, standards, and documents applicable to technical and contractual management.
  • Demonstrate significant expertise in relevant technical discipline, including site experience.
  • Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders and facilitating issues resolution.
  • Detailed understanding of PWR/EPR design and experience in PWR/EPR construction.
  • Working knowledge of French language an advantage.
  • Degree and chartered status in an engineering, construction, or other related field.
  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Knowledge and / or practitioner of Project Management with experience of applying either; APM body of knowledge and OGC's Prince 2.
