The Faculty of Arts & Humanities, established in 1989 in its present form, is one of the most prestigious faculties of its kind, ranked in the top six in Europe (QS World University Rankings, 2018). About the role
We are looking to grow and develop our digital education team within the Faculty to ensure we are providing an outstanding student and staff experience; the role of Senior Digital Education Manager is a new post within our established Technology Enhanced Learning team.
The post holder will support the local delivery of King's Digital Education Strategy, including participation in college-wide governance and groups working alongside the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning (CTEL). This will ensure expertise and input into the direction of College overarching digital education strategy effectively represents the Faculty and will ensure alignments between Faculty and College direction, priorities and timeframes.
The Digital Education Manager manages a team of two: a TEL Manager and a TEL Officer, and will ensure staff are aware of their purpose and engaged with a shared vision for the university and the Faculty.
Working closely with the Associate Director, Education and the Vice-Dean for Education, the Digital Education Manager will lead the Faculty's Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team to develop and deliver a high-quality online and in person learning experience in the Faculty.
The post-holder will work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues to develop our digital and in person education offering for on-campus and distance learning programmes; and will support our academic Departments with the planning and delivery of learning design and other transformation projects related to digital education.
The post-holder will work with senior staff in the Faculty and the wider College to help design and implement a forward focussed digital education strategy for the Faculty. They will also be responsible for developing the Faculty's capability to deliver online, computer-based and other innovative examinations and assessments.
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Senior Digital Education Manager with a track record of planning, implementing and managing effective digital education solutions within a professional or higher education environment. As well as bringing solid technical skills and a strong knowledge of learning systems and tools, the post holder will have a passion for delivering a high-quality learning experience and an understanding of the pedagogical principles and approaches which underpin online education and learning.
This is a full time post and you will be offered an indefinite contract. We operate hybrid working at King's, colleagues working in student facing roles are expected to be flexible in their working days with 40-60% of time spent on campus.
About the role
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of pedagogical approaches and methods for designing and delivering learning online in a HE or FE environment.
- Significant experience of managing online learning environments and of delivering learning resources and training to staff and students.
- Experience in the operational and strategic management of digital education delivery.
- Knowledge of methods used to assess user needs and analyse the user experience, implementing changes and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Experience leading and managing a team, managing change, and setting objectives to develop an agile and high-performing team.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to lead and contribute to meetings with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Service focussed outlook with a keen interest in understanding and improving both the student and staff experience.
- Educated to a degree level or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital education in HE.
- Experience of delivering online exams and assessments.
- Postgraduate degree or qualification in a discipline relevant to digital education.
