The role...

The role of Head of Cyber is really important to us.

The Cyber Security team are responsible for the technology, controls and processes in place to protect the group's digital networks, devices and data from unauthorised access or unintentional activity.

The Head of Cyber will lead this team, working closely with the IT Operations Director to define and implement the group's cyber security strategy and roadmap.

This position is based from our head office in Crewe, Cheshire, and reports into our IT Operations Director.

Your responsibilities will include...

  • Managing, mentoring and supporting the Cyber Security team.
  • Maintaining overall responsibility for cyber security across the group.
  • Working with IT Management to define and implement the cyber security strategy and roadmap.
  • Working closely with other IT teams to evaluate and implement new technologies in order to evolve and strengthen the group's cyber security posture, both with internal and customer facing platforms.
  • Proactively identifying cyber security deficiencies and opportunities.
  • Actively participating in IT strategy planning activities, bringing current knowledge and future vision of cyber security as related to the needs of the business.
  • Analysing and predicting trends and developing long-range plans designed to maintain effectiveness of the company's cyber security strategies.
  • Managing a penetration testing and vulnerability assessment programme.
  • Contributing to the design and build of cloud-based infrastructure and architecture, ensuring optimisation from a cyber security point of view.
  • Contributing to the design and build of customer facing platforms and applications, working closely with software development teams to ensure cyber security best practice is considered throughout the entire SDLC.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation around the use of cyber security technology in the organisation.

What do we expect of you?

  • Extensive knowledge of cyber security, with a strong technical background.
  • People management experience.
  • Detailed understanding of application security along with experience of working alongside software development teams, supporting and advising on best practice to maintain security.
  • Significant experience of endpoint detection and response (EDR) technologies and network detection and response (NDR) technologies.
  • Detailed knowledge of Information Security standards including Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO27001.
  • Good understanding of Linux and database technologies such as Ubuntu, Apache, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Nginx, Mercurial and Git.
  • Good understanding of cyber security practices in relation to cloud hosting, preferably with experience of AWS.
  • Good understanding of open source risk management using enterprise management tools.
  • Positive attitude and a high degree of enthusiasm.
  • An understanding of Service Management disciplines, ideally using the ITIL framework.
  • Ability to keep up to date with technology trends and to understand key technical drivers in the industry.
