We're hiring a Group M&A and Technical Accounting Manager as part of our team based from our London office.

Purpose of the Role

The role is responsible for providing expert guidance and support on IFRS accounting and reporting matters, specifically on M&A related activities and ad-hoc technical accounting issues. The role will report to the Head of Group Financial Reporting and Accounting and will be working closely with senior stakeholders within the wider finance group.

Key Responsibilities

M&A Related Accounting Expert

  • Provide ongoing support to group and regional M&A teams in their negotiations with potential vendors or buyers to ensure that the terms of SPAs and shareholder agreements result in appropriate accounting outcomes.
  • As part of the quarterly and year-end reporting cycle, lead the review of key acquisition and disposal accounting balances, such as but not limited to: (1) purchase price accounting adjustments; (2) deferred consideration and put option liabilities adjustments , that have been calculated by market finance teams; (3) disposal and held for sale accounting; and (4) impairment review of purchased intangibles.

Delivering Technical Accounting Excellence

  • Provide best in class technical accounting advice, on areas of complexity and new business activities, identifying accounting risks to be mitigated and opportunities to be pursued.
  • Facilitating internal discussions on key areas of financial judgements, propose recommended accounting treatment and support management to conclude appropriately.
  • Partner with the business to assess the impact from changes in accounting standards and/or from changes in business strategy.
  • Researching technical accounting issues, and providing accounting support on complex business transactions.
  • Author technical accounting papers to set out the key considerations where required.
  • Provide support to regional and market finance teams on technical accounting matters when required.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for Board, external audit and other meeting as required.
  • Assist on other business projects as required.

Process improvement and Control

  • Developing a robust process to ensure we are capturing and documenting areas of significant judgement in an appropriate way whilst ensuring they are continually monitored.
  • Maintain, and updating where required, accounting policies to ensure compliance with IFRS.
  • Partnering with Dentsu Group Finance on all areas of technical accounting and reporting matters.

Finance team development

  • Line manager for the M&A and technical accounting senior group accountant
  • Be an active part of the Group Finance team, focusing on developing technical accounting knowledge across all Finance teams.
  • Provide support and training on emerging accounting standards, including developing training materials, to finance and non-finance colleagues across the business.

External Audit

  • Primary point of contact for external auditors on M&A and disposal related matters and complex technical accounting areas

Key Skills

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA with a minimum of 4-6 years post qualification experience)
  • Big 4 trained up to at least manager level
  • Previous experience in a Technical Accounting role
  • Previous experience on accounting for mergers and acquisition
  • Proven experience of implementing new standards and putting in place best practices in technical accounting
  • Experience of working in a large multinational company
  • Has the capability to guide and coach other members of the team
  • Happy to work autonomously
  • Excels at liaising with senior stakeholders
