Waterside Specialist (Volunteer Reservoir Inspector)

We are looking for observant, responsible volunteers who have ongoing year-round availability to support on a weekly or fortnightly basis and wish to offer their skills to this specialist role. Volunteer Reservoir Inspectors survey water levels, monitor any changes to the condition of structures and watch for overgrowing vegetation or algal blooms.

You will receive reservoir inspection and systems training, and will need to be confident using your smartphone to complete surveys and take photographs.

Our experienced and knowledgeable people will provide practical onsite training to support you in developing specialist skills as you work towards accreditation as a Reservoir Surveillance Inspector (RSI).

This role has a base of Stalybridge but will require independent travel to various reservoirs.

Volunteering with the Trust takes on many guises and welcomes people with specialist skills in a wide range of areas from practical to surveying, indoors and out. These skills may include working alongside existing specialists within the Trust or bringing skills that we don’t currently have within our team? We have a wide range of skilled activities which you could be doing.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting reservoir inspections
  • Towpath surveys
  • Specialist heritage or environmental surveys and assessments
  • Supporting major construction works (or stoppages)
  • Carrying out CAATS (internal qualifications) assessing
  • Doing Visitor Risk Assessments
  • Maintaining specific pieces of equipment such as at our museums and attractions
  • Safety and service inspections

  • This is a role for people with specialist skills in a range of professional disciplines. Whilst we can support people to learn more within the Trust, we’re keen to welcome people who come with existing experience and skills that they’re happy to give.
