Waterside Specialist (Rochdale - Paddlesport Instructor Volunteer)

Our Waterside Specialists help maintain the sustainability of the waterways by giving higher levels of skills through their volunteering.

We are looking for passionate, reliable individuals who represent their community in Rochdale who want to give their time and passion in engaging young people and adults in getting active on and beside Rochdale canal.

If you have any experience with canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and want to increase opportunities for young people and adults in Rochdale please get in touch.

**What you will be doing**

- Leading events such as guided walks or paddlesport activities
- Working within a small team running an event or a series of events
- Engaging visitors and support with our wonderful waterways through different activities
- Learning new skills
- When you register as a volunteer, we will ask you about any unspent convictions which you need to declare and risk assess these as needs be.

**The skills you need**

- Friendly
- Responsible
- Reliable
- Experience leading groups (preferred)
- Good with people
- Paddlesport or water experience (training will be given)
- Availability 2-4 days a month

Why we want you

Our Waterside Specialists help maintain the sustainability of the waterways by giving higher levels of skills through their volunteering.

Volunteering with the Trust takes on many guises and welcomes people with specialist skills in a wide range of areas from practical to surveying, indoors and out. These skills may include working alongside existing specialists within the Trust or bringing skills that we don’t currently have within our team? We have a wide range of skilled activities which you could be doing.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting reservoir inspections
  • Towpath surveys
  • Specialist heritage or environmental surveys and assessments
  • Supporting major construction works (or stoppages)
  • Carrying out CAATS (internal qualifications) assessing
  • Doing Visitor Risk Assessments
  • Maintaining specific pieces of equipment such as at our museums and attractions
  • Safety and service inspections
  • The skills you need

  • This is a role for people with specialist skills in a range of professional disciplines. Whilst we can support people to learn more within the Trust, we’re keen to welcome people who come with existing experience and skills that they’re happy to give.
