Do you want to spend more time along our waterways whilst helping us maintain their great condition?
We are looking for people to join the Asset Management team as Asset Inspection Support Volunteers. The Asset Inspectors have a huge role in the Trust, monitoring all 2000+ miles of our waterways every two months through Safety and Service Inspections (SSIs). During SSIs, the inspectors look for any changes in structures and report new concerns, making sure that everything is safe and meeting the Trust’s standards. The data gathered from the inspections goes on to inform works throughout the Trust. Asset Inspection Support Volunteers will be trained to undertake SSIs themselves, giving the team more flexibility.
Performing Safety and Service Inspections is a fantastic opportunity to see more of our canals, rivers and reservoirs and appreciate the amazing engineering feats that went into creating structure still in use centuries later.
If you have a background or interest in engineering and care for our canals, then consider joining our team. You will receive training on the inspection procedure and software, including a shadowing period with our inspectors.
The schedule is completely flexible and can be tailored to your availability, location, and physical activity level. This role will require travel and potential work in remote locations, so you will need to have access to a vehicle and be comfortable walking multiple km.
Please drop us a message if you would like to ask any questions about the role.
