What is the job?As the Transport Manager your role will be to manage the day to day operation of both Transport and its resource pool ensuring:
• Adherence to all company and legislative compliance standards.
• Managing the organisational requirements relating to drivers, vehicles, and the depot.
• Ensuring standards of maintenance of vehicles are delivered both efficiently and cost-effectively to ensure minimal downtime.

This is a fast pace setting and would suit someone who enjoys a challenge and possesses the drive to succeed. You would be joining a well-versed Transport Team but the ability to work on your own is a key attribute. Good IT knowledge and good communications skills are essential for this role. Full training will be given to the successful candidate. There is also the potential in the future to progress within the business as we will always look to promote within whenever job opportunities arise.

Working Schedule: Monday to Friday, 45 hours per week. The job role is based in Rotherham depot. As this is a Transport role, travel to other depots may have to be undertaken to carry out essential duties in line with the job description.

Key Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities and Objectives

To ensure compliance with all Legislative and Company Standards by:

  • Maintaining the vehicle maintenance systems including freeway, convey and gov.uk website.
  • Completing daily risk assessments of the yard and office.
  • Enforcing WTD regulations amongst all employees particularly drivers, addressing all non-conformance, working with planners and drivers to ensure full understanding and responsibilities.
  • Managing all elements of tachograph compliance, including using tachograph analysis' for reporting and follow up actions. Ensuring traffic area falls below the department KPIs.
  • Overseeing the logging and action planning of all DVSA interactions, including but not limited to traffic stops, MOT failures and OCRS scores.
  • Identifying and addressing overweight vehicles.
  • Ensure that all other activities that form part of the Transport Managers undertakings are completed.
  • Identifying all CPC non-compliance and report to National Transport Manager.

To manage the organisation requirements of the assigned resource pool by:

  • Co-ordinating the management of absence and holidays for all drivers, depot staff and yard staff, ensuring full operational cover.
  • Plan and manage depot payroll, Including the projection of weekly manning levels, booking agency drivers, authorising overtime, enabling pay queries, and ensuring depot logs are completed.
  • Co-ordinating, recruiting, and management of drivers including all matters of employee relations , training, pay queries and ordering of uniform, PPE and mobile handsets.
  • Creating and removing drivers on systems such as Mandataand Convey.
  • Work closely with the Renewables People team on all matters of employee relations and engagement including recruitment, performance management, absence management disciplinary and grievance management. Be mindful of the businesses commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, as Gold Standard holders.
  • Ensuring that Cascade records are kept up to date with any changes to employee circumstances, new starter, promotions, transfers and leaver information, absence management, personal data management. Ensuring all records conform to GDPR Regulations.
  • Ensuring all personnel files are up to date, incorporating license validation personal details and completed training.
  • Validating and authorising all weekly expense claims made by drivers and depot staff.
  • Ensuring all training needs are met for drivers (including induction, re-training, SSW, and annual appraisals).
  • Controlling the flow of communication at the depot ensuring monthly meetings with driver reps are conducted. Ensuring that all notice boards are kept live and up to date. Driver Yammer engagement with workforce.
  • Undertaking all prescribed mandatory training using the Learning Hub, or other agreed Learning Management System, to complete Basic Induction, Management Essentials and all Compliance training within prescribed timeframes.

To manage safe systems of work and vehicle maintenance by:

  • Administering the vehicle and trailer maintenance programme (including servicing, MOT's, VOR, Weekly cab checks and maintain all records)
  • Managing the company process following all accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Managing the maintenance and repair of the depot
  • Maintaining a high level of depot cleanliness ensuring all vehicles and trailers are parked correctly.

Internal

  • Liaise with other Operations & Planning Managers, Fleet manager & direct reports, Drivers and Employees at all levels within the Group to Maintain the required standards.

External

Driver agencies, Tachograph Analysis, General Public, Emergency Services, Recovery Companies, DVSA.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential
• Good communicator
• Reliable
• Motivated
• IT Literate including Microsoft word, excel and outlook
• Minimum 2 years' experience in transport operations management
• International/National CPC Licence Holder
• IOSH Qualification or working towards
• Working knowledge of EU Drivers Hours, WTD and tachograph legislation
• Level 3 management qualification or willing to work towards
