About the Role

Base Location:London, Glasgow, or Perth

Salary: £47,600 - £71,600 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time| Flexible First options available

Join our Group Policy and Public Affairs team as a Strategic Policy Manager, where you'll play a key role in shaping SSE's approach to crucial policy issues across Corporate Affairs, Regulation, and Strategy (CARS). This is a manager-level position that involves interpreting and communicating the impact of evolving government policies and influencing their direction to help SSE drive positive societal change. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your skills and develop into a future leader within SSE, with clear pathways for career advancement in CARS and beyond. The main responsibilities of this role include:

- Working closely with our Group Strategy function to deliver valuable insights on emerging policy issues, helping guide SSE's strategy and support the Net Zero Acceleration Programme (NZAP+).

- Focusing primarily on UK energy policy related to decarbonisation, such as electricity market design, offshore transmission, and carbon pricing.

- Contributing to our work on Irish and EU policy developments andcollaborating with policy and regulation teams across SSE, coordinating our input into policy development processes.

- Engaging with external stakeholders, helping to shape the wider stakeholder community's views on key priority areas.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Educated to Degree level, preferably with Masters level in a related subject such as Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Politics or Law.

- Ability to demonstrate the achievement of business objectives through excellence in engagement and communications.

- Extensive experience of working in the energy sector or National Government department, Regulator and/or working in UK policy for a business, trade association or consultancy.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey arguments that persuade and influence others, as well as being able to work collaboratively across a broad range of teams and stakeholders.

- Strong intellectual capability and numeracy skills, must be able to quickly understand and judge the relevance and commercial value of complex policy and regulation and how this interacts with policy and regulation across the markets SSE operates.

About our Business

Our Corporate Affairs, Regulation & Strategy (CARS) function combines three quite separate but intrinsically linked businesses, with a shared focus on advising, influencing and communicating SSE's strategy and interests with key stakeholders. This involves the interpretation of complex political and regulatory changes, skilled lobbying to inform the future energy ecosystem, and innovative communication techniques to ensure SSE's story is reached by a broad range of audiences including investors, competitors, governments, partners, suppliers, communities, and both current and prospective employees.
