The role
SSEN Transmission is at the heart of the just transition to net zero in the UK. In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UK's electricity network and in doing so power the UK's net zero ambition. Our business is rapidly growing, to deliver the largest investment package that Scotland's electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn in the next 10 years.
In this role you will lead a team of power systems engineers and investment planners that take responsibility for the assessment of connections in the north of Scotland, leading the technical and regulatory appraisal that informs the customer offers. The team undertake specialist studies of system capability and own the system planning interface with key industry stakeholders.
This role will report to our Head of Investment Planning sitting in the Business Planning and Commercial directorate.
You will
- Engage pro-actively with internal and external stakeholders to influence the outcome of connections reform and to implement new governance processes for assessing and informing customer connections offers. This will include the application of Construction Planning Assumptions, coordination of multi-discipline subject matter expertise and working knowledge of commercial frameworks.
- Responsible for ensuring the compliance of the SSEN Transmission asset base, through high integrity power system analysis, operational and commissioning support combined with management of the Transmission network technical data and specialist computer simulation tools. Working closely with the Power Systems Modelling team to support the transition to Power Factory.
- Reporting on all technical and regulatory aspects of the customer connections, ensuring that team members are suitably trained to deliver quality assured outputs and that systems/tools are utilised to support an automated dashboard led approach.
- Alongside our Customer Experience teams, identify and establish the need, frequency and format for sharing of system planning content with our connection stakeholders, ensuring alignment with our customers' expectations.
- Take a strong and accountable role in SSEN Transmission for the connections portfolio and analysis techniques underpinning connection offer decisions. To communicate in a way that is meaningful to all employees and to build a proud team, of direct and indirect reports, passionate about our strategic objective.
You have
- Proven capabilities in team development, naturally coaching and mentoring to deliver outstanding performance and a positive, inclusive culture.
- In-depth knowledge of the GB energy industry structure including markets, economics of transmission investment and networks regulatory framework, including our Licence Obligations and Industry Codes/Standards for the design of, and connections to the transmission network.
- Strong capability of requirements for technical studies associated with Transmission and interconnected networks - including power flow analysis, fault level studies, voltage and thermal capability, transient stability, fast switching studies, harmonic and power quality analysis.
- Experience of acting as a subject matter expert, with the ability to present succinctly and with authority to senior business stakeholders and Ofgem for investment decisions.
