Job Purpose

Job Title: Social Media Executive - TikTok

Salary: £27,220 + benefits

Location: Remote working with Birmingham, Hatton or Gloucester hub allocated when required.

Working hours: 9:00 - 17:30 Monday to Thursday; 9:00 - 17:00, Friday; You will also join the Trust's weekend social media rota (covering one weekend in five, with time off taken in lieu).

In this role you will join the team communicating, inspiring and providing essential support to over 1.2 million (and growing) followers across our national social media accounts.

You will:

  • Help us test, learn and drive organic growth on the TikTok platform from scratch; offering guidance on support relating to strategy & content collection/creation. We have lots of briliiant canal stories - help us tell them!
  • Support the Canal & River Trust's social media presence (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) - helping to engage and grow interest and support for the Trust's charitable activities.
  • Respond appropriately to queries and interactions, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and engagement.
  • Develop content for, and curate, the national social media pages, ensuring all content is engaging, timely and brand-building.

Location/base: This role will be based from home, but with an office 'hub' preferably in either Birmingham (central), Hatton & Gloucester for collaborative team meetings. It is therefore important that applicants are able to commute easily to either of these locations.

To aid support content creation, there will be occasional in person fieldwork throughout the regional waterway network. The regularity and flexibility of travel will be discussed further at interview stage.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

The Trust has important targets to grow awareness of and support for our charitable activities. In the last 24 months our social media following has almost doubled, and since 2020 we have provided a seven-day social media service. The post holder will provide essential support to the Trust's social media accounts, further growing their reach and influence.

Your tasks will include:

  • Creating content (mostly video) for our new, national TikTok channel that demonstrates the key areas of work delivered by our charity. In many cases, content will be suitable to share across other existing channels including Facebook and Instagram.
  • Responding to supporter comments and queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Seeking new opportunities to grow support by engaging with relevant online conversations discovered through hashtags and keywords.
  • Supporting the charity's national campaigns and fundraising appeals by sharing social media posts that inspire our online audiences to get involved.
  • Analysing performance of social media posts to help inform future strategy (led by the Social Media Manager).
  • Ensuring that diversity and inclusion and all our charity's values are integrated into Trust life.

About you

We are looking for a great communicator who understands the importance of social media in growing a brand and delivering customer service. You will love creating content that best reflects our charity's work, growing awareness and inspiring action from supporters along the way. You'll be a fantastic ambassador for the Trust, always championing a strong collaborative team approach.

Technical:

  • Proven experience in the day-to-day support of social media accounts across different platforms including TikTok for a brand or organisation.
  • Demonstrable passion for social media community management and the ability to foster on-going engagement across platforms.
  • A genuine desire to help ensure that we #KeepCanalsAlive for future generations.
  • Strong understanding of social media algorithms and how they impact content visibility and engagement.
  • Experience using software such as Hootsuite, Canva and Business Suite.
  • Strong creativity and impeccable copywriting.
  • Experience of editing short form video content suitable for social media.

General:

  • Excellent written and visual attention to detail.
  • A diligent work ethic; joining the Trust's weekend social media rota (covering one weekend in five, with time off taken in lieu).
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Initiative to work independently but also as a team.
  • The confidence and enthusiasm to regularly get out onto the nation-wide canal network to capture new content.
