Overview

Salary: £42,000 to £47,000 + up to 10% bonus per annum

Working Location: Home-Based, London, Essex and South East of England

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

What you'll be doing

As part of a professional, multi-disciplinary team, you will lead on the technical risk management on a whole range of new build and conversion projects. You will engage, influence and negotiate with developers, builder customers and their design teams at the proposal stage to provide expert knowledge, and professional and technical advice on NHBC Standards, codes and other relevant areas in order to guide them towards compliant solutions that present an acceptable technical risk to NHBC.

This is a home-based role and you can look forward to real flexibility and an excellent work/life balance. You will often be expected to travel to client sites and, from time to time to our offices, including our head office in Milton Keynes.

Key elements of the Senior Technical Building Consultant role are to:

  • Lead the management of NHBC's technical and warranty risks
  • Oversee the technical risk management of complex new build and conversion projects
  • Review and check technical submissions from customers to ensure they comply with NHBC standards
  • Project management including managing and co-ordinating the input of other specialists within the TRM project team
  • Engage, influence and negotiate with developers and their design teams
  • Carry out site inspection of building work as part of the technical risk management strategy and provide support to inspectors, surveyors and engineers in the project team

The ideal candidate will have

We're looking for an enthusiastic self-starter who has or is working towards chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution. You will also have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of at least one of the following: structural defects claims, Building Regulations, engineering, NHBC Standards, site inspection, building construction and technology.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of building Pathology and experience of building defect identification.
  • Aptitude to problem solve and be able to identify actions required to mitigate risks.
  • Substantial understanding of why and how buildings fail and result in claims.
  • Ability to identify potential failure points in building designs (likelihood and impact) and a knowledge of opportunities available to mitigate issues.
  • Demonstrable experience of successful. customer relationship management, ability to navigate difficult conversations and appropriately challenge.
  • Assist in implementing business efficiencies and opportunity for growth of the business.
  • Manage own workload and tasks referred to other specialists in accordance with SOPs and to achieve SLAs.
  • Keep up-to-date with NHBC's IT systems.
  • Ensure compliance with NHBC and HSE requirements for personal safety and that of others.
  • Deliver technical presentations to both internal and external customers where required.
  • On-site experience with advanced knowledge of the housing sector.
  • Excellent communicator, verbal and written with appropriate interpersonal skills, planning and organisational skills.
  • Relevant building/construction experience with substantial knowledge of the housing and commercial sectors
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with the willingness to develop this exciting new role.
  • IT literate across a range of software programmes - Microsoft Office.
  • A proven ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Education and Qualifications

  • Chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution e.g. CABE, ICE, BEng, (or be able to demonstrate working towards).
  • Relevant accredited HND/HNC, Degree, or higher diploma qualification or substantial industry experience.
