Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

Job overview

The Critical Care Outreach team is looking for a highly motivated, hardworking, dynamic individual to join our existing nurse lead team. You will be based on one site but expected to support both sites. The Outreach service runs 24/7 365 days per year.

For this post you are required to have recent employment in ICU / HDU, a Mentorship Module and a recognised Critical Care Course with a minimum of six months experience following this course. You must have been qualified for a minimum of four years. You should have excellent communication skills, the ability to develop and support students and staff within their clinical areas and a commitment to the delivery of a high standard of patient care.

These posts will require you to work internal rotation including days, night and weekends/bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

To lead in the implementation and delivery of a nurse led critical care outreach service; support and improve services for patients on the ward and other departments who are at risk of deteriorating to the needing of level 2 or 3 critical care. To integrate policies, education, practise development and research relevant to clinical area.

To ensure a person centred approach to care practise and provision collaborate with other professionals and provide clinical leadership.

Lead in incorporating care standards into every day practise.

To provide an integrated trust wide approach to critical care with the provision of the service outside the boundary of the critical care unit.

To develop and implement an early warning observation chart.

Essential criteria

  • First Level Registered Nurse
  • ALS
  • Recognised critical care course
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification
  • Completed Management course

Desirable criteria

  • Completed LEO course
  • Degree Level Study

Experience

Essential criteria

  • 2 years previous critical care experience at Band 6
  • Evidence of ability to be shift manager
  • Experience of managing unit resources. (i.e. off duty, budget management etc.)
  • Experience of change management

Desirable criteria

  • General surgical/medical or specialist ward experience
  • Paediatric experience
