We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic nurse to manage our fifteen bedded inpatient unit here at the Wisdom Hospice. You will need to be able to evidence experience of line-managing a team, experience of working with patients with life-limiting illness and experience of working within a multi-disciplinary setting.
This full-time role will combine both managerial and clinical work, working mainly Monday to Friday, with one weekend day and one night shift per month. There will also be a period of covering the palliative care on call service on a rotational basis, generally for one week per month.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a key leadership role in the day to day management of the IPU in order to ensure a consistently high standard of patient care on the unit.
To actively participate in the delivery of a consistently high standard of specialised palliative care.
Foster good working relationships and communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team, other healthcare professionals and users of service to ensure the delivery of high standards of effective healthcare.
Participation in senior manager on call rota.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Professional UK Nursing Registration {Adult Level 1}
- Degree Level Education
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to life-limiting illness
- Practice Assessor or Mentorship Qualification
- Advanced Communication Skills training
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate qualification in palliative care or similar field
- Educated to Masters level or equivalent
- Leadership qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience in managing a team of healthcare professionals
- Evidence of a range of clinical competencies appropriate to the role
- Experience of implementing quality improvement processes
- Awareness of importance of robust clinical governance
- Experience of change management
Desirable criteria
- Experience of management in a palliative care setting
- Experience of providing on-call cover
Skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of understanding the challenges faced by patients and families in a palliative care setting
- Proven evidence of ability to emotionally support staff in a palliative care setting
