Job Title: Senior Medical Writer (Medical Education)

Reports to: Scientific Team Leader (Medical Education)

Department/Division: Springer Healthcare UK

Location: Chester/London/Manchester

We're looking for a Senior Medical Writer to join a dynamic group delivering high-quality medical education for global clients. You will lead, develop and creat innovative and evidence-based solutions to educate healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities

Project delivery

  • To write and edit scientific content for a range of medical communications for various audiences, according to client needs, deadline, budget, internal and external (GPP, ABPI, etc) quality standards, as directed by the senior team
  • Take clear and agreed briefs from clients or Scientific Team Leader including content, formats, timelines, proposed authors/key medical experts and stakeholders
  • Research and generate content in varied formats as determined by the project (including but not limited to: publications (manuscripts/abstract/posters), PowerPoint slides; eLearning modules; animations; infographics; podcasts, vodcasts, live/virtual/hybrid meetings; on-site attendance; web sites)
  • Be a point of contact on matters of scientific content for clients, experts and internal staff
  • Accurately record actual time spent on a project against budgeted time, and complete timesheets in a timely manner
  • Review content from medical writers or freelancers to ensure the works meets the brief, client needs, deadline, budget and internal quality standards providing timely and relevant feedback

Project management

  • Record and monitor actual time spent on a project against budgeted time, and complete timesheets in a timely manner
  • Monitor utilisation rate so that it is 75% on average
  • Where applicable ensure robust development plans are in place for line reports and monitor progress against these plans

Business development

  • Maintain awareness of indicated therapeutic areas
  • Provide editorial input into project costings and proposals in terms of editorial hours, level of support required and timelines
  • Apply therapeutic area knowledge and writing flair to creatively contribute to business development opportunities including proposals and pitches
  • Contribute in internal/external meetings as a scientific representative of Springer Healthcare

Line management

  • Potential for 1-2 line reports

Travel requirements

  • International and national travel as requested

Skills/Experience

Essential

  • A biomedical degree (or equivalent experience
  • Extensive (>3 years) medical writing experience in a communications or medical education agency, pharmaceutical industry or related healthcare industry
  • Excellent attention to detail, oral and written communication and time management skills
  • High level of competency using standard software packages including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Desirable

  • A higher degree in a biomedical discipline, ideally MSc or PhD
