What is the opportunity?

Bank of Ireland is embarking on a journey to transform how it develops software used to support its customers. We're looking for a hands on, proactive Senior DevOps Engineer who is a strategic thinker, but also more than capable to roll up their sleeves and implement key initiatives

The Senior DevOps Engineer role is a crucial role within the bank and you will need to be able to understand the complex requirements of delivering software in a regulated environment, have a detailed understanding of the technical building blocks used to build, test, deploy our applications, and can communicate this to both a non-technical and technical audience.

  • Provide guidance on DevOps tools, environments & best practices to our teams that have been developed by the DevOps Centre of Excellence (DCOE)
  • Contribute to the DCOE initiatives, either in the form of documentation and best practices or helping to deliver strategic solutions to the bank that work for our engineering teams.
  • Promote DevOps internally within the bank, and be an advocate for clean, rapid & robust software delivery pipelines within the bank
  • Have strong technical background and you can seamlessly move from the presentation deck to the code editor and help realize our strategic ambitions

What will make you stand out?

  • A minimum of 8 years in a software development
  • A strong development background in languages such as C, C#, Java, Golang and a thorough understanding of their test frameworks
  • You're used tools like Ansible / Puppet / Chef to deliver infrastructure, and you know how to test them thoroughly
  • Excellent skills in one of the main scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Ruby and their test frameworks
  • Understanding of what's required to get your application to a production environment

Experience with any of the following will help you to stand out but is not necessary in order to apply for this role:

  • You can articulate technical designs and processes to both engineering teams and non-technical audiences
