Your Role

  • Plan and deliver innovative technology solutions to the vacuum market that will advance Atlas Copco products and their application capability.
  • Working under the direction of a manager to plan, organize and deliver technology projects either alone or as part of team. Tasks may include but not necessarily be limited to:
    • o Reports and supporting documentation highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, and limit of deployment of the proposed technology
    • o Proof-of-concept demonstration
    • o Detailed test reports
    • o Methods, calculations, and design rules
    • o Technical specifications and descriptions
    • o Engineering models, sketches, drawings
  • To use rigorous problem-solving techniques and methods
  • To use appropriate experimental techniques and methods ensuring safety, accuracy, and effective results will be obtained.
  • While carrying out tasks be seeking and suggesting improved experimental methods, equipment, software and investigation techniques that will improve quality of data and time-efficient methods
  • To use appropriate analytical and modeling techniques that support and strengthen the solutions used in test, validation, material suitability and manufacture
  • To use appropriate reliability modelling and FMEA techniques
  • Information seeking via papers, literature, patents, internal and external sources
  • Dissemination to enhance team knowledge and innovation in the NTV groups and to the business
  • Use project plans with estimated timescales and costs for further technology investigations and / or producing technical demonstrators.
  • When concluding a work package include a technology risk assessment backed up by documented analysis and test results.
  • Consider, investigate & pitch new innovative technologies to add into the project pipeline

To succeed, you will need

  • Degree, Masters or Doctorate in relevant Engineering/Science discipline or equivalent experience
  • Relevant Previous experience (minimum years to competently carry out the role, not total year of experience)
  • At least 5 years' experience within industry or research associated with product creation and development.
  • Practical experience of relevant design, experimental and investigative techniques in laboratory and real-world environments.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies.

Knowledge areas/Skills (minimum level of knowledge to fulfill the role's responsibilities)

  • Engineering/Science theory and practice at a good level.
  • Ability to research other areas of engineering/technology and draw parallels to make informed decisions to guide projects in areas of design, development and research.
  • A keen interest in information seeking and learning.
  • Ability to work as a self sufficient individual and as an integral part of a team to maximize performance.
  • Ability to plan and deliver projects to agreed metrics ensuring all aspects of design, development and research are fully understood and design rules/parameters are defined and documented.
  • Ability to contribute to innovative designs, methods and new technologies ideally with a record of IP creation.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence team members to achieve goals.
  • Ability to form awareness of customer, competitor and 3rd party technology landscape.
  • Ability to present reports, papers and presentations in order to disseminate Technology to the business and promote adoption.

Demonstration of the following core competencies:-

  • Self management - ability to take a brief, define boundaries and deliverables, plan and execute to committed deadlines with peer review of key decisions.
  • Planning and execution - ability to define the scope, resources, risks and timescales required to deliver the work packages agreed. Deliver to the agreed plan and accountable for the outcomes.
  • Interaction - the role will require the ability to net-work within and across teams
  • Communication - clear and effective verbal and written communication with different levels of the business and external parties is required
  • Other requirements (e.g. Language skills; competencies; expected travel requirements)
  • Proficient in all standard office software tools. Demonstration of innovation and technology focus though behaviours. Accuracy and precision in all engineering out-comes. Travel as required - 10% anticipated, 20% max
  • Benefit to have basic or higher knowledge of CAD and FEA/CFD simulation software
