Senior Cover Supervisor

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Miltoncross is an academy at the heart of its community that has very high aspirations for all of its staff and students. We operate by the core values of Work Hard. Be Kind. No Excuses in order to foster a learning community where everybody values each other and everybody values the power of learning. We offer a supportive and collegiate working environment where we all have the same goal - outstanding learning for children. We are now one year into building a fresh, optimistic and sustainable culture where staff and students are always fulfilled because they know that they are doing their best work for the right reasons. Our systems and structures are designed to liberate staff and students, freeing us all up from the challenges of uncertainty and relentless workload which in turn enables creativity, excitement and essentially, it makes coming to school enjoyable for all! To understand this better, do ask to read our Blueprint for Brilliance which outlines everything we do, why and how. This could really help you make an informed decision about whether this is your next career move or not. We think it should be! Staff and students enjoy their days in excellent modern buildings with superb facilities. We are located on the West of Portsmouth and access is easy from the M27 or A27. Many staff commute easily from Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex either by car or by public transport. At Miltoncross we are 2 years into transforming our culture and thus the outcomes and life chances of our students.

This role is relatively new and is a key element in ensuring that our systems and structures all work effectively and efficiently. By ensuring that absent teachers' lessons are covered by our own Academy staff we will increase further the consistency for students and in turn ensure that students experience the same expectations whatever lesson they are in. This role requires somebody to manage and coordinate all teacher cover in the academy. Ensuring that we have a team of enthusiastic and capable staff ready to cover lessons and ready to support children is vital. The successful candidate will be a cover supervisor them self and so will also cover lessons as required. They will manage the cover diary and ensure that all lessons are covered and that the work set is appropriate (either through internal school staffing or external Specialist Supply Agencies). They will maintain centrally saved files for teachers to submit work and for cover supervisors to access with ease. The role would be suitable for somebody who has previous experience either as a teacher or as a cover supervisor. They will help train, support and line manage the cover supervisors. You may be a teacher who no longer wishes to take work home or a Cover supervisor who is looking for additional responsibility and pay. Either way, we will support you to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the cover required in the academy. You will need to be personable, kind and able to listen, empathise and guide young people. You will also need to feel comfortable ensuring that they live up to our high expectations so that they can truly meet their full potential. You will be a stickler for creating, maintaining and following systems for efficiency.

For full details of what to expect, please read the job description but, as it is a new post, there will be the opportunity to develop the role and responsibilities in order to best meet the needs of the students and the academy.
