Property Disputes Knowledge Lawyer/Senior Knowledge Lawyer

We are seeking a Knowledge Lawyer/Senior Knowledge Lawyer (PSL) to provide high quality knowledge support for our highly regarded Property Disputes team. Ideally this role will commence in September/October 2024.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced and well-respected Knowledge team on a 12 month fixed-term basis, working in a supportive and collegiate environment. It would suit both someone who is interested in taking on their first knowledge role as well as those with previous experience of professional support. Knowledge is at the heart of Osborne Clarke's strategy, and you will be a key member of an innovative and purposeful Knowledge team.

Our Property Disputes team are based across our Bristol and London offices, although we are open to considering candidates looking to be based in any of our UK offices (Bristol, Reading or London). We recognise the importance of flexibility, and flexible working arrangements are common across the Knowledge Team and within the Practice Group. We are happy to discuss both formal working hours (full-time or part-time) and remote working arrangements for this opportunity.

The practice

Our specialist Property Disputes lawyers excel in helping clients resolve all kinds of disputes ranging from all aspects of both commercial and residential landlord and tenant to complex and highly technical development disputes (which involve many different areas including rights to light, restrictive covenant and easement disputes and contractual interpretation). We provide a cradle-to-grave service and have a wide range of experience, from advising clients on possible angles to exploit and add value on investment portfolios or development site clearance, to early-stage dispute avoidance advice and mediation, full-blown litigation and third-party determination.

The team also has niche and market leading expertise in telecoms-related property litigation, land rights for energy providers including a renewables focus, CPO and planning disputes, rating and property related professional negligence work.

As a result, the work of the team is squarely aligned with its key sector focus, with a strong emphasis on our Real Estate and Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, and Tech Media & Comms sectors.

The team

Our specialist Knowledge Team is made up of 40 individuals overall, including Knowledge Lawyers, Knowledge Paralegals, PAs, training and document support, client content editors, research analysts and information specialists. This role will report to our Head of Disputes & Risk Knowledge and operate alongside two other specialist D&R Knowledge Lawyers.

There are approaching 50 fee-earners in our Property Disputes team. Led by five highly-regarded partners, the team is also made up of legal directors, associate directors, senior associates, associates, trainee solicitors and paralegals.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this this role will include:

  • Keeping the Property Disputes team, lawyers in other parts of the business, and Sector experts up-to-date on legal and regulatory change across the team's area of work.
  • Delivering, and organising the delivery of, a legal training programme to the team and other interested lawyers and business professionals.
  • Organising know-how sharing, including collecting and storing external and internal know-how.
  • Developing and maintaining an up-to-date and technically excellent collection of Property Disputes precedent documents, where time allows.
  • Assisting in the preparation of client seminars and client workshops, and speaking at such seminars and sessions.
  • Writing and coordinating the production and delivery of reader-friendly internal updates and client publications.

Skills And Experience

We are looking for:

  • A thorough understanding of UK property disputes law and its application to practical, real-life business issues.
  • The ability to present technical legal and regulatory issues in a clear, approachable and professional way to both our teams and to our clients.
  • A demonstrable interest in client knowledge activities, preferably with prior experience of presenting to both individual client teams and at seminars and roundtables.
  • A client-orientated approach - both internally and externally; ability to think laterally and to develop ideas in relation to business opportunities and products; appreciation of fee earner needs and constraints; commercially aware.
  • Ability to make decisions and progress work and projects quickly without undue process or over-complication; and confidence in own expertise.
  • A good understanding of:

- how technology, including products currently used by law firms, can be used to drive productivity gains and cost efficiencies;
- the importance of efficient working processes; and
- of how to manage, co-ordinate and promote the take-up of these technologies, practices and processes in a legal services context.

Due to the technical nature of the work, we are looking for a fee-earning lawyer or current Knowledge Lawyer (PSL), although we will consider candidates with more or less experience.

If you are unsure whether your qualifications and experience are right for the role, please do contact us - we are always happy to have informal conversations with people who would like to join our team.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
