Projects Knowledge Lawyer/Senior Knowledge Lawyer

We are seeking a Knowledge Lawyer/Senior Knowledge Lawyer (PSL) to provide high quality knowledge support for our market-leading Projects team. Ideally this role will commence in September/October 2024.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with our experienced and well-respected Knowledge team on a 12 month fixed-term basis, working in a supportive and collegiate environment. It would suit both someone who was looking to try a knowledge role for the first time as well as those with previous experience of professional support. Knowledge is at the heart of Osborne Clarke's strategy, and you will be a key member of an innovative and purposeful Knowledge team.

Our Projects team are based across our Bristol and London offices, although we are open to considering candidates looking to be based in any of our UK offices (Bristol, Reading or London). We recognise the importance of flexibility, and flexible working arrangements are common across the Knowledge Team and within the Practice Group. We are happy to discuss both formal working hours (full-time or part-time) and remote working arrangements for this opportunity.

The practice

Osborne Clarke LLP has an outstanding reputation in Projects. Our offering is broad and our extensive practice represents investors, developers and lenders across a range of sectors in the UK and internationally.

Our Projects team offers clients high-level expertise across the full project lifecycle from initial project set-up/acquisition, through project development, construction, financing, operations and exit. We have been at the forefront of many of the recent market developments and have an exciting pipeline of work and opportunities we are developing (which includes solar, wind, storage, biomass and energy-from-waste, green hydrogen and electric vehicle charging).

Our international team has a reputation for successfully delivering first-class support in all segments of the energy and infrastructure markets. Within the Energy sector we are widely acknowledged as the leading adviser on the move to a decentralised and decarbonised energy industry and adoption of innovative energy solutions.

In addition to energy, our Projects team is also active in the infrastructure sector and has particular expertise in education, universities, healthcare, rail, roads, airports and related transport infrastructure. Outside of the UK, we have market-leading energy and infrastructure specialists in all key European hubs.

The Team

The Projects team sits within our Projects, Real Estate and Finance (PREF) Practice Group and works closely with our Planning and Environment teams. You will work collaboratively with the existing PREF Knowledge Lawyers, the Projects Partners and other members of the Knowledge team as well as sales and marketing professionals and Partners in other parts of the firm. You will carry out your responsibilities with the support of your line manager - the Head of PREF Knowledge - and dedicated paralegal, PA and training administration support.

Our specialist Knowledge Team is made up of 40 individuals overall, including Knowledge Lawyers, Knowledge Paralegals, PAs, training and document support, client content editors, research analysts and information specialists. In addition to the support mentioned, you will operate alongside five other specialist PREF Knowledge Lawyers.

There are 35 fee-earners in our Projects team. Led by nine highly-regarded partners, the team is also made up of legal directors, associate directors, senior associates, associates, trainee solicitors and paralegals.

Like all our people, you will benefit from our multi-award winning development programme so that you are well supported and developed in your role to build a career in Knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • facilitate keeping the Projects team up-to-date on legal and regulatory change across the team's practice.
  • organise the delivery of legal training, facilitating know-how sharing and maintaining a technically excellent collection of template documents.
  • assist in the preparation of client 'insights' and produce reader-friendly internal updates and client publications.
  • deal with queries from lawyers and clients regarding current law and practice.
  • input into and help to deliver the Projects team Knowledge strategy and wider Osborne Clarke Knowledge strategy.

Skills And Experience

You will have an excellent knowledge of the law of at least one of the following areas and its application to commercial business issues:

  • Construction
  • Projects (PPP/Infrastructure)
  • Project Finance
  • Energy

We recognise that our practice is broad and we aren't expecting candidates to have knowledge of every area listed above.

You will have an ability to present information clearly - both in writing and when speaking. You will be a pro-active self-starter with excellent organisational skills. You will be someone who thrives in a team environment, working collaboratively with the other PREF Knowledge Lawyers and wider Knowledge team.

Due to the technical nature of the work, we are looking for someone who is legally-qualified with relevant experience. You may be a fee-earning lawyer in private practice or working within the legal team of a business, in academia or in a knowledge role elsewhere, or returning to work after a career break.

If you are unsure whether your qualifications and experience are right for the role, please do contact us - we are always happy to have informal conversations with people who would like to join our team.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
