Project Finance Senior Associate

"They are good to deal with and go above and beyond." - Chambers & Partners

We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our Project Finance team in either London or Bristol.

The practice

Our Project Finance team advises on a wide variety of energy and infrastructure financings, including financing for greenfield and brownfield developments and related corporate financings across the capital stack. The team sits within our wider Projects team and acts as a single energy and infrastructure finance team across our London and Bristol offices. The Projects team offers clients high-level expertise in project procurement, structuring, set-up, financing, execution and exit of both energy and infrastructure assets and project portfolios. We advise on complex UK national and cross-border international energy and infrastructure projects and have been at the forefront of developing innovative structures to deliver projects for our market-leading clients...

Our Project Finance team is an integral part of our broader Projects team, which is one of the largest and most experienced legal teams active across both the energy and infrastructure sectors, with over 100 lawyers in all of Europe's major economies. For over 25 years we have been helping clients take advantage of new opportunities in clean energy to support decarbonisation and digital infrastructure in particular.

Many of the legal issues that arise on energy and infrastructure finance transactions are specific to the industry. We therefore draw on our wider international energy transaction experience and industry knowledge to help structure financings for creditors, developers and investors looking to finance specific assets throughout their lifecycle.

In addition to the drafting and negotiation of applicable finance documentation, our Project Finance team works closely with other groups within the firm (including our wider Projects and Corporate teams) to undertake project due diligence and advise on specific bankability issues for energy and infrastructure assets or asset portfolios including in respect of regulation, construction, grid connection, real estate and planning, power offtake and optimisation arrangements, and subsidy accreditation.

The team

Our UK-based Projects team is split between London and Bristol with 9 Partners; 1 Legal Director; 5 Associate Directors; 4 Senior Associates; 9 Associates, 6 Trainee Solicitors and 1 Solicitor Apprentice You will have the opportunity to work directly with a number of Partners in the team, reporting primarily to Dominic O'Brien who heads our Project Finance team.

Technical skills and experience

You will have relevant knowledge and experience of energy and/or infrastructure finance matters. As a guide, due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are ideally looking to appoint a Senior Associate capable of leading transactions under Partner supervision with junior and, when required, other more senior support. Experience of other types of Projects work (including M&A and/or commercial Projects) would also be beneficial..

Your career development

The Project Finance and wider Projects teams are targeted for further and significant investment and growth within the firm. For the right candidate this will provide an exciting opportunity to help shape the growth of a key team within an established and successful Projects practice and with a clear progression path.

You will be given early responsibility for building client relationships and business development whilst working in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:

  • clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
  • high quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
  • thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
  • robust technical training with early skills based development, increasingly tailored to you; and
  • reward for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
