About the Role

Base Location: Reading, Glasgow or Perth preferred; however, we will consider your base 'home' location to be one of our other SSEN offices or depots around the UK.

Salary: £58,630 - £68,098 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Flexible First options available

As the Flexible Solutions Project Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in managing and coordinating multiple live smart grid projects within SSEN. Your focus will be on the project management and technical aspects of these projects, ensuring that they are completed within budget and meet customer expectations, following a strict governance. You'll take a proactive approach in identifying and resolving technical issues, managing risks, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects.

Your responsibilities will include supporting the design, implementation, and testing of active control systems. Through rigorous testing, you'll verify that the systems meet their design requirements, identify any issues, and ensure that they are promptly addressed. You will also propose and/or approve solutions to resolve root causes and ensure the successful completion of projects. Additionally, you'll assist the team with modifications to live systems, provide technical reviews of contracts, and develop innovative engineering solutions to complex problems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and coordinating multiple live projects.
  • Developing new solutions to engineering problems.
  • Using knowledge and expertise to support testing, change management and functional design of Smart Grid control systems.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and project success.
  • Continuously expanding your expertise in the electricity network, staying abreast of the latest developments, and serving as a key point of contact and knowledge leader in your field.

What do I need?

We would love you to have:

  • A Degree, or working towards in a relevant STEM discipline.
  • Professionally registered or working towards professional registration with relevant Engineering Institutions.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of SCADA/distributed control systems engineering and awareness of the principles of electrical power engineering.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence and inform opinion.
  • Ability to learn and understand Smart Grid systems and how they function.

A project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent qualification or experience) would be advantageous.
