About the role

The Port Ellen Private Client Host is responsible for providing personalized, high-end experience to Private Clients, host and coordinate high end and rare tastings, events and travel. They will also generate sales through private client visits and recruitment, and act as the embodiment of our Luxury portfolio to consumers across Destination Scotland.

Top Accountabilities

  • Provide personalized concierge services to VIP visitors and private clients; book spaces, organise set up for tastings and catering
  • VIP Travel coordinator: (receive requests from the booking system and Private Client Teams, local and global) build Private Client itineraries, oversee bookings via our travel team, arrange all details (welcome letters, sampling liquids)
  • Partly responsible for delivering luxury capability across all relevant areas of the business and setting up the private client spaces and experiences
  • Partly responsible for delivering Private Sales at Port Ellen and across our Scotland Brand Homes
  • Generate sales through Private Client visits as well as spend time on the Retail shop floor when the Private Client space is not busy, to recruit/ spot potential Private Clients
  • Take the lead on hosting Private Clients in Lagavulin and Caol Ila distilleries
  • Identifying new prospects and building partnerships to recruit clients on Islay and across Scotland
  • Train the Brand Home teams at Lagavulin and Caol Ila and nearby Diageo distilleries on HNWI sales and hosting in order to elevate the standard
  • Be a Brand Ambassador for the Diageo luxury portfolio and represent during Events
  • Manage the ongoing relationship with Private Clients or manage the handover to other Private Client teams, ensure all clients receive necessary confirmation emails, follows ups and data is captured
  • Warmly greet private visitors and VIPs and provide an introduction to the Port Ellen, Lagavulin and Caol Ila brand and luxury portfolio
  • Have product expertise and constantly develop knowledge on new Prestige product lines
  • Actively listen to our visitor' feedback, requests, and concerns in order to take action in an ethical, effective, and timely manner to exceed their expectations
  • Uphold security policies and procedures for the private spaces, experiences and stock
  • Ensure that the Port Ellen rules, safety standards, and sanitation requirements are followed at all times
  • Complete opening and closing procedures in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ensure full compliance with H&S regulations across the Brand Home
  • Assist with business process improvement and project management
  • Assist in the training of new staff
  • Maintain good attendance and communicate with supervisory staff on scheduling issues
  • Participate in educational opportunities for personal growth and development, including cross-training opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience required

  • Previous experience in luxury hospitality, food & beverage, and spirits/wine industry
  • Previous VIP client experience is essential
  • Brand and category knowledge across Spirits and TBA (total beverage alcohol) with particular experience in process, ingredients, provenance, and trends
  • Foreign language skills preferred
  • Knowledge of global Prestige markets and customers is highly desirable
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Be guided by a customer-first mindset
  • Possess a friendly, helpful, confident, and engaging personality
  • Be familiar with visitor experience best practices and procedures
  • Must have ability to prioritize and plan work activities in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage multiple work demands, and adjust to delays and unexpected events
  • Must be flexible with work schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings
