What is the opportunity?
Bank of Ireland is changing how it provides digital services and has introduced a developer platform through its DevOps Centre of Excellence. To support this transformation, we have formed a Platform Operations team to maintain platform availability, assist users, and develop new features.
This senior role is to provide leadership to our platform operations team as it develops to provide outstanding services to our internal delivery teams!
In this role, you will:
We plan to develop this team into an SRE function within the bank, and the responsibilities here are listed with that ambition in mind.
You are a strong and experienced engineering/operations manager who will be responsible for:
- Day-to-day management of the team and providing support and mentorship to the team members as its remit widens.
- Identifying where there are skills gaps on the team and ensuring these are addressed either through recruitment or additional training.
- Taking proactive measures to address platform incidents and resolving them completely, while providing feedback to the team on root causes to prevent future occurrences.
- Ensuring all tools directly supported by the platform, and its dependencies are current and updated frequently & safely.
- Maintaining all supplier due diligence and commercial arrangements to bank standards.
- Working closely with our platform engineering team to ensure operational requirements are in the product backlog.
- Ensuring our enablement teams are fully supported with up-to-date platform technical & operational information.

EMS is a part of the Bank's Group Technology and Customer Solutions division. They handle software testing environments. The Atlassian Tools Team and the Tooling Team in EMS develop and operate collaborative and CI/CD tools for the Bank of Ireland.
