Partnership & Funding Manager

Job Purpose

Salary: £59,400 (inclusive of Car Cash Allowance & Inner London Allowance) + benefits

Location: Remote, with Extensive travel and visibility required within the London and South East region, i.e. 2-3 days a week on average (the role is contractually based from home, where work will be carried out when not in the region. See here: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/canals-and-rivers

The Canal & River Trust is a charity entrusted with the care of over 2000 miles of canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs in England and Wales. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the nation's strategic and local blue-green infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways contribute to the health and well-being of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. They also play an important role in mitigating the impact of climate change and provide valuable habitats and much-needed biodiverse corridors for wildlife.

The Trust is looking to recruit a Partnership & Funding Manager to support the Trust's aims of gaining wider public, statutory and corporate funder support delivering infrastructure improvements, health and wellbeing outcomes and increasing our brand awareness. To broaden the profile and influence of the Trust and Region with new and existing audiences by proactively undertaking networking opportunities and high-level representation of the Trust. This role will ensure robust regional alignment to national strategies and fundraising plans through strong links with the Fundraising Director, and Strategy, Engagement & Impact Director, and their teams.

The role will develop projects and initiatives with existing and new partners and funders to secure external funding to deliver the Trust's Strategic ambitions. You will lead on public affairs in the region ensuring alignment with national engagement plans. Mapping external stakeholders and building and maintaining strong personal links, relationships and alliances. To support the Regional Advisory Board and utilise their skills and networks to grow external support and income.

Location & coverage

The role will be based working from home, with the allocation of a nearby Hub for collaborative working in Little Venice.

This is a regional role but there will be an expectation that the successful candidate will be able travel to attend meetings or occasional fieldwork throughout the regional waterway network.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Key accountabilities:

  • Creatively capitalise on a range of potential opportunities identified through networking and horizon scanning to deliver regional priorities.
  • Working closely with the Director of Fundraising, central fundraising colleagues and the regional partnerships and funding team to identify and secure income from a variety of sources including statutory, corporate and Trusts & Foundations.
  • Ensuring the development of a Regional Enterprise funding strategy that identifies key funding opportunities and external partners. Ensuring the delivery of sufficient external funding and resources to enable the implementation of projects and initiatives.
  • Leading on the development of the regional marketing & communications and public affairs strategies, overseeing delivery and ensuring a positive impact on the Trust's income, profile and reputation as a waterway and wellbeing charity. Ensure the region is optimising the use of social media to grow brand and market income generating activity.
  • Driving outstanding performance through coaching, mentoring and strong line management and the development of a high performing team. Creating a culture of accountability for the delivery of ambitious financial targets. Responsible for ensuring collaborative working within the team and with wider regional and national colleagues.
  • Ensure opportunities are maximised for corporate engagement that results in funding and support for regional ambitions.
  • Display the Trust values and behaviours at all times.
  • Ensure that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promote inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust's policies and values.

About you

Technical:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in relevant discipline.
  • Experience of charity sector, not for profit, heritage or environment, customer focused organisation.
  • Experience and knowledge of funding sector with direct experience of shaping strategies and proven track record of securing funding and delivering resources from a range of sources.
  • Strategic partnership development and relationship management.

General:

  • Ability to influence, persuade and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - strong presenter.
  • Experienced at networking and understanding the sector.
  • Understanding the public affairs environment and delivery mechanisms.
  • Creative thinker, team player.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership of high performing multi-disciplinary team.
