We have a fantastic, high-impact senior leadership opportunity for an established doctor with substantial clinical experience and experience of supporting healthcare insurance operations. This is a brand-new position in AXA Health's Commercial team, responsible for how AXA Health manages its internal medical operations.
Leading the Medical Policy and Medical Underwriting teams, as well as being the custodian and senior leader responsible for related areas, you'll drive AXA Health's performance across medical, healthcare, and operational responsibilities. You'll hold a strong track record in delivery and expertise, bring expertise in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams and projects. You'll be eager to shape and drive the organisation and build an industry leading team.
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) towards the end of 2025. Away from home means either attendance at our Tunbridge Wells office, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you'll be doing:
• Develop, implement and continuously optimise medical policies for healthcare funding, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and responsiveness of medical policies, implementing improvements as necessary to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Provide expert technical support to claims management team, including development and dissemination of guidance, technical rules, and best practices across all modalities of claims operations and all relevant technology development.
• Lead annual review of core policy terms and conditions, focusing on managing indemnity risk exposure and ensuring that policies remain relevant and effective.
• Conduct a comprehensive bi-annual review of all policy guidance to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with current medical standards and practices.
• Oversee resolution of medical and policy queries and escalations, including addressing medical aspects of legal inquiries and complaints related to policy terms and conditions.
• Act as primary point of contact for healthcare providers and other key ecosystem stakeholders, regarding the eligibility of treatments, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution of queries.
• Manage and lead the medical underwriting team, ensuring that underwriting practices are efficient, compliant, and aligned with the organization's risk management strategies.

What you'll bring:
• Medical qualification with demonstratable clinical experience.
• Experience of an appropriate level of clinical leadership, including clinical governance, performance, and risk management leadership.
• Experience in providing medical leadership to a health insurer to improve internal operational performance.
• Demonstrable experience of leading major strategic initiatives or change programs in complex environments with multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to guide and support analysts to design, deliver, and interpret complex data sets.
• Proficient in data analysis tools and software relevant to healthcare analytics.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards in healthcare data management.
• Awareness of the regulatory and compliance environment affecting both our processes and people.
• People and resource management expertise.
As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
