ALS is looking for a highly motivated and innovative Land Business Unit Manager, to lead the Land business in the UK.

This is an extensive, senior role, with the successful candidate being responsible for the day to day Operational & Technical development on Hawarden site, ensuring timely and accurate results to the Land client base.

Ultimately, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the business with a strong and experienced management team but also able to work and inspire all levels, communicating effectively and engaging our people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive delivery and continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Ensure that all operational performance targets are met.
  • Liaise with other Operations Managers ensuring synergy and smooth transfer of samples between sites without undue delay to the sample turn around time.
  • Budgetary responsibility for performance of the business including the effective management of direct and indirect costs to deliver revenue and profit targets.
  • Drive Capacity and Process changes to optimise Laboratory efficiency and throughput to maintain a focus on the continual reduction of production costs.
  • Responsible for maintenance and development of the ISO17025 that covers Laboratory operations. Ensure ongoing compliance and improvement of operating procedures to satisfy internal and external auditing schemes.
  • Operate site within Human Resources framework and ensure all workplace regulations and procedures are achieved.
  • Liaise with the Sales and Marketing teams to identify operational capacities.
  • Develop the technical capabilities of the laboratory to ensure we support the technical needs of our clients and business colleagues.
  • Directly influence the annual CAPEX budget
  • Preparation of monthly reports and resource justifications.

About You

  • A detailed knowledge and management experience of High-Volume Production Laboratory Operations and associated quality systems
  • A detailed knowledge and management experience of laboratory logistical functions including registration, transport, and bottle orders.
  • Experience in the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 and 14001 HSE systems.
  • HND/HNC/Degree or equivalent in a relevant science subject.
  • Have substantial experience at a Management level
  • Motivation, coaching, retention and development of operational and management-based employees.
  • Significant experience required of working with ISO 17025 accreditation
