The Role:
To lead the development of new electronics & software products and sub-assemblies in line with the Divisional focus, maintaining a time to market of less than 18 months for all major projects. Ensuring that Divisional relationships are maximised and needs are met.
- Maintain awareness of Divisional product road-maps and identify opportunities for Eastbourne Product Company NPI and manufacturing.
- Deliver safe, right-first-time NPI solutions to the agreed project timescales, project costs and final product costs.
- Be the Eastbourne Product Company's Technical Authority for design decisions, technical standards compliance and associated sign-offs.
- Ensure best-practice local and global engineering processes, methods and tools are developed and consistently adopted, contributing to the on-going development and adoption of VTTS, Vacuum Technique Technical System.
- Drive innovation, identifying IP opportunities and threats, and maintaining awareness of competitor and wider industry solutions.
- Strengthen the Eastbourne engineering organisation demonstrating strong leadership to ensure effective recruitment and selection, objective setting, competency and organisation development.
- Identify the future talent pipeline including succession planning by coaching, mentoring and developing your team.
- Ensure that NPI cost-centre budgets and headcount are appropriately managed, with agreed forecasts, and spends are monitored and reported against the targets.
- Assist the General Manager in the ongoing management and development of the Eastbourne site and meeting the site OGSM, Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures.
To suceed, you will need:
- Bachelor or Masters degree in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- MBA or equivalent management qualification would be preferred.
- CEng, Chartered Engineer, would be preferred.
- Significant experience in developing or supporting customer-deliverable electronics based products.
- Experience working in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in a technical and people management role.
- Experience in a project management role would be preferred.
- Good understanding of electrical and electronic components and circuits.
- Good understanding of software development processes.
- Must be a good communicator and have excellent fluency in spoken and written English.
- The role is based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, UK.
- The Eastbourne Product Company potentially serves all six Vacuum Technique Divisions: Scientific Vacuum, Industrial vacuum, Semiconductor, Semi Chamber Solutions, Semiconductor Service, Vacuum Technique Service.
- There will be some need to travel to UK & European locations, and maybe very occasionally to Asia or US locations, e.g. to other Vacuum Technique sites, key suppliers and, possibly, customers.
- The role requires very close interaction with Divisional level Engineering Managers and Marketing / Product Managers, as well as with peers at some other Product Companies, e.g. Engineering Managers, Quality Managers etc.
- Total budget accountability: $5.5-8.8m.
- Direct reports: typical 8-10.
- Total team size responsibility: 30-40.
