Job Title: Engagement Manager

Salary: £39,588 + £4k per annum Inner London Allowance + Benefits

Working Hours: 37 Hours Monday - Friday

Location: Home Working with regular travel around the London and South East region. The hub location is Little Venice, with an expectation of working from the hub a minimum of 3-4 days a month. In addition to working from the hub, this role will involve frequent travel to project sites and events and activities, predominantly in London.

Canal & River Trust is one of the UK's largest charities. We look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of canals, rivers and reservoirs across England and Wales, because we believe that life is better by water. Our work involves not only looking after our waterways but also promoting them widely to the 8 million plus people who have canals on their doorstep, so that many more people benefit from our free, accessible and local source of wellbeing.

We are looking for an experienced Engagement Manager. The engagement manager (EM) is responsible for the delivery of funded and income-generating community engagement projects in the region. The EM will work with the Community Development Manager, (CDM), to strategically plan regional community development activity, focusing on where there is need and opportunity to support operational activity and grow local ownership, brand presence and support for the Trust through fundraising and volunteering.

This role will have extensive experience in the engagement field, and will have the skills to manage and develop senior level relationships with external funders and partners in the London & South East region, ensuring targets are being met and reported on.

The role-holder will be required to work from home and will have access to the office hub in Little Venice.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Key Accountabilities:

Delivery of key funded/income-generating projects

  • Key project contact for funded projects; managing and growing relationships with funders and carrying out all reporting and monitoring.
  • Deliver funded programmes, meeting both funder and Trust objectives: Activation of canal spaces, incorporate community through wellbeing and tailored engagement activity, grow brand awareness in project locality.
  • Responsible for stakeholder mapping and understanding who (diverse communities, schools, young people, local businesses etc) in project areas would benefit from our projects and the activation of canal spaces. Establish contact, build relationships and plan engagement work accordingly.
  • Actively seek to grow funding and income generation possibilities.
  • Regional lead for Let's Paddle (canoeing for communities on funded projects, and for corporates to generate income) ensuring regional oversight for safety/training/delivery and also acting as regional lead for national Paddle Forum.

Local events

  • Lead and support regional events where necessary.

Growth of volunteering

  • Work with CDM to develop regional volunteering strategy.
  • Identify, craft and grow volunteering opportunities in the region, and support recruitment campaigns
  • Meet targets to increase volunteering within the London & South East region

Partners and collaboration

  • Work with external partners at a senior level and internal colleagues to develop and deliver against the strategic programmes and targets.
  • Work with colleagues within the region and nationally on the priorities for community engagement and build capacity across the region to increase the quantity, quality and diversity of our community engagement offer.
  • Work closely with local operational teams to support budget relieving activity
  • To coordinate with Enterprise Managers and Business & Corporate Engagement Partner to identify funding opportunities to deliver further engagement activity.
  • Identify and develop strong working relationships with key partners across a range of organisations to ensure participants and beneficiaries are reflective of the local communities.
  • Lead national initiatives and partnerships as appropriate; sharing approaches across the 6 regions and with national teams to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Act as regional lead for various working groups (ie Paddle forum, EventBrite users)

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in relevant discipline
  • Experience of charity sector, not for profit, heritage or environment, customer focused organisation
  • Experience and knowledge of delivering community programmes with proven track record of shaping strategies and programmes
  • Strategic partnership development and relationship management.
  • Ability to influence, persuade and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presenter.
  • Experienced at networking and understanding the sector.

DBS

As this role is on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 Exception Order applicants must state the details of any cautions or convictions whether spent or unspent on the self-disclosure section of the application form.

This job involves regulated activity with children and adults at risk as defined by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Therefore, a Criminal Record check will be undertaken by the successful candidate prior to employment.
