Drop in Volunteer (Bishop's Stortford Vegetation Cut)

Join us on **Tuesday 7th October from 11am to 2pm** in the middle of Bishop's Stortford for a fun session on the beautiful River Stort!

**Tasks** We will be cutting back vegetation on the towpath and around the boaters facilities just off Station Road. A good work out for your arms! All hand tools and equipment will be provided.

**Meeting Point** 11am below Station Road Bridge, near to Nuffield Health. Hunting on Google maps? We will be down the alley just West of The Rose and Crown Pub. For those familiar with the navigation aid Whats3Words, the precise location is horns.luxury.years.

**By Car** There are twelve car parks nearby, but parking charges will apply.

**By Bus** To the West there are stops for Holy Trinity Church or Potter Street. To the North there is Riverside or Dane Street. To the South East there is the interchange for Bishop's Stortford railway station. All within 5 mins walk.

**By Train** Bishop's Stortford station is close by.

**By Bike** Well done! The best environmentally friendly approach.

**Bring with you** Your muscles. No really you might need them! Your lunch and plenty of water. Suitable sturdy Footwear. Please also dress suitably for the weather. We can provide hot drinks and a biscuit.

**Welfare** There are many local cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from.

Our opportunities offer a great way to keep fit, meet other local Trust Volunteers, learn new practical skills and spend a few hours outdoors improving your local waterway!

Why we want you

The Drop-in Role is all about getting a taste of volunteering at the Trust, joining us at your leisure to take part in open in one of our Welcome Sessions, Let’s volunteering opportunities or, if you’re joining us for the first time, this would be a great opportunity for you to get involved.

We have a host of easy to access volunteer opportunities that will help to make a huge impact to your local canal but without having to.

What you will be doing

  • One-off taster events including our Welcome Sessions
  • Litter Picking
  • Let’s activities on the water and on the towpath
  • When you register as a volunteer, we will ask you about any unspent convictions which you need to declare and risk assess these as needs be.
  • The skills you need

  • This role is specifically planned without a need for skills or training. As a result of joining it, you’ll find out about other roles where training may either be needed or can be given to help build your skills. No formal skills required
  • What's in it for you
