Our Pension Fund Accounting business continues to grow and we are now looking for an experienced Deputy Team Manager Pension Fund Accounts to join our vibrant office with remote or hybrid working. This is an exciting role and would most likely suit someone with previous experience in a similar role where they have gained extensive skills and knowledge as a senior pension fund accountant and is looking for a fresh new challenge.

The Role

As a Deputy Team Manager - Pension Fund Accounts with XPS you will:

  • Promoting and adhering to the XPS workplace values.
  • Preparing pension scheme Trustee Report & Accounts.
  • Reconciling investment transactions.
  • Preparing all the necessary working papers & reconciliations of the financial statements.
  • Liaising with auditors and investment managers.
  • Preparing self-assessment tax returns (SA970).
  • Reconciling cash books and pensioner payrolls.
  • Updating and reviewing procedures and templates used by the team.
  • Reviewing other team members work.
  • Onboarding new clients.
  • Providing expert advice to pensions accounts queries, keeping abreast of technical and legislative developments within the pensions accounts industry.
  • Ensuring company policies and working procedures are implemented and adhered to by self.
  • Forging strong working relationships with other teams in order to provide a total service to our clients. E.g. Administration, Payroll, Client Banking, Actuaries.
  • Ensuring the accurate updating of time recording system (OpenAir) for both chargeable and non-chargeable activities.
  • Conducting quarterly 121 meetings & year end appraisals for junior staff (associates and senior associates).
  • Covering Team Manager task when absent.
  • Conducting team meetings and team catch ups when required.

Your profile

Essential Criteria

  • Must have attained a recognised accountancy qualification, e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, etc or qualified by experience.
  • A proven accounting background gained within either an accounting practice or a third party pension's provider. Experience should include a broad knowledge of accounting techniques including reconciliation, year-end processes etc.
  • Previous Pensions Fund Accounting (PFA) experience is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience of Profund Aviary would be of advantage.
  • Previous experience of checking work of other team members.
  • High degree of numeracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • A client focussed approach.
  • Continuing to augment technical pensions accounting knowledge as well as keeping abreast of legislative changes and is seen as a source of advice to others.
  • Continues to seek ways of innovating and improving quality, service delivery and efficiencies in processes and procedures.
  • Meticulous and well organised.
