Are you artistic, creative or looking to get involved in something different? Are you looking to learn new practical skills and apply them creatively? Want to experience working as part of a team on a lasting project?
We are looking for a group of people who have artistic flair! The pilot mural project offers the opportunity to transform a space into something vibrant. The program offers the opportunity to prepare a space, be part of the design process right through to producing a finished piece of art on a permanent fixture.
What you will gain - Learn about The Canal & River Trust, our dedication to the waterways, environment and health & safety working near water. Gain experience in construction, painting, woodwork, vegetation. Learn new skills and techniques in using equipment. Become involved in the design process through guided practical sessions with an experienced artist.
The program will run through summer 2025 starting late July. There are 6 places available. To find out more apply today to be shortlisted for an interview.
Join us today to become a Conservation Volunteer and be part of the team keeping history alive by preserving our waterways. In this role you’ll get to experience the many faces and locations of our beautiful network and help maintain our structures and assets. Whether it’s working on pre-planned maintenance cutting back vegetation around aqueducts, or tackling graffiti in our more urban locations, our Conservation volunteers do a fantastic job of making sure there’s plenty of beauty on the doorstep. This is a great opportunity to make a huge difference in your community whilst learning more about the canals in your area.
Why we want you
Our Conservator volunteers help to maintain our network, carrying out important heritage and nature conservation activities as well as everyday tasks to improve the local environment such as painting or litter picking.
Our Conservator Volunteers help to tackle some of our toughest issues on the waterways, ensuring as much of the canal is accessible and well maintained as possible. Each year we face new challenges in managing our increasingly popular space and your support as a Conservator Volunteer will help to achieve our goals in keeping canals alive.
Whilst we have regular teams carrying out important tasks, some run on more of a ‘project’ basis to achieve specific activities (rebuilding a section of stone wall or carrying out some mass planting) meaning that different people can give their time in different ways.
