The Canal & River Trust is excited to share this exciting opportunity to join our team and work with our wide range of volunteers.
We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate individuals to help facilitate and support the Task Manager deliver the Ministry of Justice project in Leicester. This involves managing the activities for the day, ensuring the safety of the group, and fostering a fun and positive attitude so that our volunteers want to come back year after year. This is a genuine hands on opportunity where you will learn more about our canal network, how to deliver safe and impactful volunteer days, and get great enjoyment from seeing these activities come to life.
If you are interested and would like to learn more about what it means to be a Lead Volunteer, please sign up below.
As part of our wider community engagement the Trust has created an opportunity for the Leicestershire Unpaid Work teams (MoJ) to carry out work on our canals, helping with our day-to-day maintenance, litter picking and occasionally some more involved work such as pathway improvements. To assist with this, we are seeking a volunteer to assist our task manager with this work upon a weekly basis usually a Tuesday or Wednesday. Training opportunities include tools such as brush cutter/ strimmer and polesaws.
Why we want you
Our Conservator volunteers help to maintain our network, carrying out important heritage and nature conservation activities as well as everyday tasks to improve the local environment such as painting or litter picking.
Our Conservator Volunteers help to tackle some of our toughest issues on the waterways, ensuring as much of the canal is accessible and well maintained as possible. Each year we face new challenges in managing our increasingly popular space and your support as a Conservator Volunteer will help to achieve our goals in keeping canals alive.
Whilst we have regular teams carrying out important tasks, some run on more of a ‘project’ basis to achieve specific activities (rebuilding a section of stone wall or carrying out some mass planting) meaning that different people can give their time in different ways.
