The Opportunity:

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to work in one of the most exciting and growing sectors in the world - Africa's Power Sector. The EnergyNet team is made up of around 20 people who are all passionate about the work we do in a supportive and collaborative environment. The candidate will work closely with the Group Director, and Portfolio Manager to conceptualise, produce and deliver EnergyNet's portfolio of events.

About EnergyNet

EnergyNet is a multiple award-winning producer of investment conferences and news for Africa energy sector. Best known for the Africa Energy Forum , the longest running flagship forum for decision makers in Africa's energy sector which attracts over 25 Ministers of Energy and close to 3,000 participants. EnergyNet also produces region-specific investment meetings focusing on the power generation potential of some of the world's most exciting emerging markets. Recent event locations include Cape Town, Nairobi, Lisbon, Brussels, Washington, Togo, Accra and Lusaka.

About YES!

Most recently, EnergyNet launched YES! This is a mission to empower the youth in Africa to succeed in with their careers in the sector and take their destiny into their own hands through access to knowledge and connections. In 2025 EnergyNet hosted the largest gathering (conference) of youth in the energy sector in the world with 6,000 young people registered to attend in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a high-quality portfolio of events focused on the development of Africa's energy sector.
  • Work with the team on EnergyNet's flagship event the Africa Energy Forum.
  • Take a lead on producing in country events.
  • Lead the project and guide your project team - including sales, marketing and delegate sales, taking responsibility for the overall success of the event.
  • Conduct in-depth market and industry research over the phone and in person to develop strong topical leading event agendas.
  • Investigate and generate new topic ideas in alignment with global and regional trends and provide direction to the conference content.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, shareholders, committee members, advisors, associations and senior government representatives including Ministers.
  • Work with Group Director and Portfolio Manager to produce and lead strategy for future direction of the events.
  • Work with Group Director to conceptualise and put in place a long-term strategy for your events.
  • Manage long term supporters; connect with and build relationships with new clients, speakers and media partners.
  • Work with and lead the marketing team in the successful promotion of the events.
  • Work with and direct the sponsorship team and delegate sales team to ensure commercial targets are met.
  • Write promotional copy for the event programmes.
  • Write articles/interviews for EnergyNet's news site ENN to help promote your event
  • Work with the Portfolio Manager to manage the budgets for the events.
  • Excellent management of conference onsite, including dealing with speakers and delegates and logistical arrangements to ensure exceptional delivery.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours:

  • Proven experience as a successful conference producer or in an alternative role with strong transferable skills.
  • A strong track record of leading, and owning a portfolio of events, showing clear content and strong commercial growth over time.
  • Demonstrates loyalty, dedication and commitment to the role with a strong work ethic.
  • A team player with the ability to manage, inspire and lead the project team.
  • Ability to work under pressure; delivering and taking responsibility for large scale events, with 300 plus speakers and 100 plus sponsors.
  • French speaking preferred - both verbal and written but not essential.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Proven ability for strategic thinking and forward planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Knowledge or interest in Africa's energy sector.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required.
  • Strong relationship builder who can develop larger advisory boards of senior industry buyers and leverage these relationships to drive sales and commerciality of the programme.
  • A strong copy writer, able to clearly communicate an effective value proposition across their team.
  • Proven experience in developing new topics and launching events profitably.
  • Proactive, results driven, and highly motivated.
