Job Purpose

Advertised Salary: range from £35,000 - £46,000 + car cash allowance (£5,100 p.a.) + benefits. Please see job descriptions below for relative compensation levels.

The Canal & River Trust is one of the UK's largest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country's third largest collection of protected historic buildings - preserving them for future generations. Our waterways are exciting, vibrant places to work.

The Canal & River Trust generates significant revenue from our estate (such as buildings, moorings, wayleaves, easements, etc). This income helps the Trust to look after the canals and rivers in our care. Working within the Investment and Commercial directorate, the purpose of these roles are to deliver income growth and maximise income opportunities within these areas.

We have three opportunities to join our team:

  • Commercial Surveyor - Boating Business - working closely with the Regional Property Surveyors across the midlands and south and will be responsible for implementation and ongoing management of rent reviews and lease renewals many of which are historical across the portfolio
  • Property Surveyor - Utilities - responsible for a portfolio of property agreements, triggering and negotiating reviews, undertaking renewals and regarding existing contracts, assignments, and other transactions through the full process including reporting for approval, and ultimately instructing and managing solicitors through to completion
  • Estates Surveyors - responsible for developing existing and new income sources to maximise income opportunities with the aim of growing income above inflation, over the next 10 years. Estate Surveyors provide specialised expertise to assist in the management of the Trusts operational and commercial estate and the various legal and technical matters associated with generating and protecting income and providing specialist estates support to the wider business.

Successful applicants will be MRICS qualified (or having commercial property experience and working towards RICS qualification), with tangible experience driving strategies and improving income streams in the property industry.

Location

Remote working from home - with opportunities to work from any of our current Hubs: Ellesmere Port, Burnley, Leeds, Hatton, Newark, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Gloucester & London.

These are national roles but there will be an expectation that you will be able travel to attend occasional meetings or conduct fieldwork throughout the waterway network. The regularity and flexibility will be discussed further at interview stage.
