The Role

The role of Climate Change & Environment Manager is very important to us. We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking climate change and environmental expert who will be responsible for environmental, carbon and climate change matters across the Group.

The initial focus of the role will be on compliance matters, including carbon management, development of a climate transition strategy, climate financial disclosures (e.g. UKCFD), regulatory adherence to SECR /ESOS, and ownership of our ISO 14001 system, and general environmental compliance.

The role will then broaden overtime to work more closely with the lifecycle of our products and services, developing and supporting projects linked to procurement, packaging, circular economy, waste, water and energy.

This role sits within our Legal function and reports directly to the Head of Sustainability & ESG.

We would love to welcome you to our Crewe head office, working hours of Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Your responsibilities day to day will be...

Carbon / Climate Change

  • Monitor and report Scope 1-3 carbon emissions in accordance with the GHG protocol across our global operations
  • To develop, set and monitor a TPT aligned climate transition plan and deliver projects that enable carbon reduction, to achieve real impact and defined carbon targets
  • Influence, persuade and negotiate with colleagues and business partners to embed a climate transition strategy into the business and drive actions to achieve it
  • Identify key carbon reduction opportunities and explore science-based targets to guide decarbonisation efforts
  • To lead on the Group's climate-related target setting and implementation
  • To lead development of Group frameworks to deliver the strategic impacts
  • To develop climate / nature related partnerships and delivery

Environmental Management and ISO 14001 certification

  • Manage compliance of legislation, industry standards and growing customer requirements
  • Develop an ambitious environmental strategy
  • Design, implement and manage regular data and reporting systems to monitor performance, identify insights / opportunities, drive engagement, accountability and meet compliance requirements
  • Manage our ISO 14001 certification within our Group companies, managing our Environmental Management System and quality control associated programmes, policies and procedures
  • Liaise with environmental regulatory authorities and local stakeholders regarding environmental issues / incidents where necessary

Environmental Reporting / Compliance

Ensure compliance with all carbon-related regulations, reporting frameworks, and mandatory disclosure requirements including (but not limited to):

  • Scope 1, 2 and 3 Carbon Emissions
  • UK MCFD
  • SECR
  • ESOS / SEAI Assessments and Action Plans

Resource Efficiency

  • Develop strategies to achieve zero waste to landfill, embedding circular economy principles and water and energy resource efficiency
  • Develop packaging and circular economy initiatives to reduce environmental impact
  • Collaborate with project teams and supply chains to minimise waste generation and maximise material reuse and recycling

Sustainable Procurement

  • Take ownership of the environmental aspects of future procurement strategy, working in partnership with a newly formed Procurement Team and suppliers
  • Collaborate with the supply chain to promote and influence sustainable materials, low-carbon technologies and drive carbon emission reductions through close collaboration, partnerships and contract renewals
  • Drive compliance with procurement policies aligned to ESG goals, including sustainable and responsible sourcing

Training, Communication & Engagement

  • Create training programmes to enhance environmental awareness and competency across the business
  • Develop communication strategies to engage employees, customers, suppliers and stakeholders in environmental sustainability initiatives
  • Act as the company's ambassador on environmental matters, representing Radius in industry forums, client meetings, and public engagements

Internal / External Stakeholders

  • Work with our Facilities team and global site network to support positive environmental change
  • Establish and maintain links with key external agencies (e.g. Environment Agency) and peer organisations to benchmark our environmental programmes and keep the business up-to-date with the latest environmental legislation and best practice across the Group

What do we expect of you?

The successful Climate Change & Environment Manager will have the following technical experience:

  • Extensive leadership and/or expertise in climate, including leading climate initiatives within an organisation
  • Deep expertise of climate-related strategy, governance, risk and impact management, metrics and targets; and associated frameworks and guidance
  • Extensive experience managing environmental and ISO 14001 programmes, and driving sustainability initiatives including carbon reduction, waste, water and energy management
  • Excellent understanding of environmental legislation, policy and reporting frameworks, including ISO 14001, SECR, ESOS, UKCFD / TCFD and CDP
  • Deep experience built in climate-focused technical delivery and developing and setting climate strategies
  • Strong expertise and experience of climate-related data, tools and modelling
  • Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for products and Circular Economy concepts
  • Knowledge of international sustainability legislation / standards e.g. CSRD, CSDDD, ISSB, SBTi, TNFD, TISFD and GHG Protocol
  • It is essential that you have experience working in a commercial environment

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to different stakeholders up to C-Suite

Qualification Requirements:

  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in environmental or sustainability studies
  • Ideally 10+ years experience in carbon and environmental management

You will be compensated competitively with a salary range of £70,000 - £80,000, dependent on experience.
