The team

Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It's a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit based in the heart of Westminster. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

The role

We are looking for a first-class, enthusiastic Camera Operator to provide content using a range of cameras, sound and lighting equipment for our award winning news service.

You will ideally have some experience of working in news, a good knowledge of editing and thrive under pressure.

Having an appetite for news and a positive attitude will also be key to the success of this exciting opportunity.

You will be expected to shoot and edit and will routinely use a LiveU to feed material back to the Newsroom and to provide a live resource into our news programmes and bulletins.

When working directly with correspondents, reporters and presenters, you will be a team player and assist with all areas of production as required.

Being an ambassador for ITV you will liaise with members of the public on location and be prepared to ask questions at the scene of a news story.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

  • You will have a demonstrable passion for video news production, particularly in a creative and operational capacity.
  • You will be a highly motivated individual as well as friendly and approachable.
  • You will be committed to working as part of a successful team, sharing the responsibility for supporting programme production by having the willingness and aptitude to learn many new skills with appropriate training.
  • A flexible approach to working hours is essential due to the need to be reactive to breaking news.
  • Above all, you will be an excellent communicator who is quick thinking and calm under pressure, able to digest and react to information efficiently.
  • Knowledge of the ITV Granada Reports news patch is an advantage but not essential.
  • You will have a full driving licence.

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

  • Our camera operators may be required to film feature items for the news programme, so an ability to shoot in a creative style is desirable
  • The ability to edit packages remotely, for transmission and a working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro would be an advantage
  • Camera operators will need to be creative in their use of different filming techniques, for example using GoPro's and 360 cameras in addition to a Sony Z280.
  • Technical knowledge of sound recording techniques and lighting would be essential.
  • Experience of working on and setting up OB's from a technical perspective would be helpful
  • The ability to assess risk dynamically is essential

Please note, the rostered hours for this role will include weekend working and Bank Holidays.

The working pattern will primarily be 8 hours plus 1 hour for lunch - usually within the hours of 08:00 and 19.30 and includes some weekends. Due to the nature of news, shifts can be changed or extended at short notice.
