Finance Operations requires an Assistant Manager, Client Money within the Control Accounting team. This role is multidisciplinary and responsible managing the team that support client money accounts across the UK firm including ensuring compliance with the client money regulations, ensuring robust controls are in place that are closely monitored, providing advice, and sending client payments. The role also provides support across the wider Control Accounting Team, in particular releasing payments and ensuring financial controls are adhered to.

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) and is part of the Finance Operations team in our Enabling Functions. The Finance Operations team supports the UK and Swiss Firms comprising 26,000 Partners and staff including 50 regional UK Offices and 5 Swiss offices.

The role is a people leader role where you are responsible for performance management of direct reports, including regular check ins, development and feedback.

The role will lead the client money and office accounting team. Client money refers to funds held by Deloitte in trust for its clients and are kept separate from the company's own funds. The purpose of holding client money separately is to ensure that it is protected and can be easily identified and returned to the client if needed. This role is responsible for:

  • The governance of controls across all client money accounts
  • Maintaining a system of governance across all client money accounts
  • Reporting to the Governance Board
  • Engaging with Partners regarding their client account compliance responsibilities and provide advice on potential new client accounts
  • Ensuring a robust client money Business Continuity Plan is in place
  • Leading our response to internal and external audits of client money
  • Ensure process notes are updated as and when any changes take place.
  • Releasing payments to our suppliers, Interfirm and staff e.g. expenses and payroll
  • Releasing payments in respect of our client accounts
  • Releasing Treasury transfers / payments
  • Identify and understand customer needs beyond what has been requested
  • Enhance the controls that are in place, liaising with Financial Risk & Controls Team as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with the Firm's financial controls and ensure business continuity for key client money activities
  • Conducting Quarterly meetings with Local teams to update on any changes in the client monies
  • Proactively seek process improvements and establish agreed best practice going forward
  • Proactively checking for new client money regulations

Strong customer relationship skills. You will have excellent customer service skills showing attention to detail and a customer focus. You will be able to identify and understand customer needs beyond what has been requested. You will need to liaise with various teams across Deloitte ensuring the controls are in place, so it is important that you can demonstrate a professional, friendly and approachable manner coupled with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels, especially when under pressure.

Continuous service improvement. You will proactively seek process improvements and establish agreed best practice going forward as well as proactively checking for new client money regulations. You will be a good listener with a calm manner, and the ability to ask effective questions so that the right advise can be provided.

Essential Skills

  • Experience of working in risk management or a regulated industry and implementing controls
  • Demonstrate a methodical, analytical and clear approach to problem solving

Desired Skills

  • Previous experience of SAP / SAGE
  • AAT qualified or part qualified accountant (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience of business continuity and disaster recovery planning
  • Previous experience of working within a finance function
