Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Young Adult's Peer Mentor to join our friendly and supportive team. This role is exclusively available to students at Nottingham Trent University (NTU).

Change Grow Live - The Place provides support and treatment to young people under 25 in the Nottingham area who are experiencing problems with drugs and alcohol. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of other NTU students.

Interview dates: Monday 3rd & Tuesday 4th March

Where: Nottingham

When: Whether you can donate one day a week of your time or 3days+, we will work with you to be as flexible as possible. Our service is open 9AM - 5PM.

Volunteer Expenses: Travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed as per CGL volunteer policy.

Key activities of the role:

  • Work 1-2-1 with a matched young adult to support them to achieve their goals and make plans for their future
  • Give advice and information about drugs, alcohol, the associated risks, and harm reduction
  • Signpost the people we support to other services / groups
  • Support young adults to attend appointments, other services, groups, and fun activities (e.g., swimming, football, basketball etc.
  • Record the contact you have with young adults in their case note
  • Promote the service to young adults and other professionals
  • Raise concerns you are experiencing or that you have about others with staff as required (e.g. safeguarding)
  • Opportunities to support in promoting the service at colleges, universities, and community events (e.g. Freshers week, wellbeing fares etc.)

Before starting in role our volunteers:

  • Complete 5 in-person training sessions. Planned training dates: March 27th, April 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th
  • Submit 2 references
  • Complete an enhanced DBS check
