Join Our Team as a Workshop Manager
Reporting to the Branch or General Manager, the Workshop Manager plays a key role in overseeing and managing an efficient and effective workshop operation. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality repair, technical and spares support for the branch, while maintaining full compliance with current Health & Safety legislation.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll combine technical expertise, people management and operational control to keep our equipment safe, compliant and ready for hire.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with the branch team and customers regarding repairs, managing all onward work requirements through the workshop team.
- Work closely with the Branch/General Manager to maintain high workshop standards, identify training needs and implement best practice.
- Test, inspect and repair equipment in line with manufacturer specifications.
- Ensure the workshop operates efficiently, with all work completed safely and in accordance with H&S legislation and guidelines.
- Maintain essential spares stock at economical and practical levels.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation.
- Guarantee availability of appropriate PPE and up-to-date COSHH documentation.
- Recruit team members in line with company procedures.
- Train, coach and develop team members to perform effectively in their roles.
- Maintain regular and clear communication with the team.
- Manage succession planning, underperformance and staffing levels to maintain budgeted headcount.
- Support stock takes as required.
- Ensure equipment is stored safely and never left in public areas.
- Undertake additional duties within your competence to support the smooth running of the branch.
What We're Looking For:
- Previous management or supervisory experience within a workshop or hire environment.
- Relevant mechanical or electrical qualification.
- Experience working with equipment typically found in a general tool hire fleet.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage time, resources and budgets effectively.
- Customer-focused mindset with excellent service skills.
- A proactive team player with strong leadership capability.
