We are currently delivering the redevelopment project at Devonport Royal Navy docks located in Plymouth, Devon and we are seeking a Works Manager who has a heavy civils background and is comfortable client facing on a day-to-day basis, and can communicate effectively at a high level amongst our stakeholders. You will be the key link between the senior management, the engineering teams and the client on-site. Will ensure smooth running of the works and oversee the recruitment aspects for the blue collar requirements for the project. You will need to have knowledge of working in a nuclear environment or have major civils projects experience.

Due to the site being a high Security Military Navy base, additional security checks will need to be made - BPSS/SC level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU & NATO member passports can be considered for this role.

Your mission

As Works Manager you will be responsible for:

  • You will be responsible for all the supervision on site and will have weekly engagement with the team to support all activities.
  • Health, Safety, Quality, & Wellbeing is a top priority.
  • You will be involved in promoting, training and other initiatives that develop a strong culture and promote BAM Nuttall's Vision and Values.
  • Project professional image of self and the company.
  • Set personal example and promote best practise in safety, quality and environment, leading meetings and promoting culture.
  • Manage site supervision, sub-contractors, supply chain and the workforce.
  • Management of all operational activities ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures and legislation.
  • Build and develop the team to deliver all aspects of the project requirements.
  • Oversee the programme by monitoring and ensuring labour, plant and materials requirements are sufficiently met and take accountability for delivery.
  • Ensure all operational records are up to date and in place.
  • Attend and contribute to safety, programme, commercial and business meetings as necessary.
  • Develop foremen and the workforce, e.g. identifying, monitoring and arranging training requirements to ensure competency and reviewing performance.
  • Take an overview of the construction works and ensure that a professional image is maintained at all times.
  • Manage industrial relations issues.
  • Manage quality of the works to ensure client satisfaction.

Who are we looking for?

The following are mandatory requirements:

  • Successful experience as a Works Manager on major civils projects.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in successfully managing all major civil engineering activities and temporary works.
  • Experience in development and promotion of safe systems of work.
  • Demonstrate excellent people management skills and experience in team building.
  • Excellent communication skills, including communication with external stakeholders, e.g. public, client and Joint Ventures.
  • Qualified First Aider
