Job Description

The Depot Manager will oversee the picking, cross-docking, and transport operations at the JD Sports site in Dunstable. Success in this role requires strong commercial acumen, a commitment to fostering a robust safety culture, and the ability to cultivate and maintain excellent relationships with customers. Prioritising the safety of all employees and operations, the Depot Manager will ensure that high standards of service are consistently met while promoting a safe and secure working environment for everyone involved.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage Key Account Plans to achieve customer retention, satisfaction, contract expansion, and year-over-year profit and margin growth.
  • Take full accountability for the daily management of the site functions.
  • Oversee the planning, organization, and supervision of activities and resources across the site.
  • Foster strong working relationships with key stakeholders to ensure top-tier operational performance, leading to long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure the delivery of all contractual KPIs and budgetary requirements across the site.
  • Promote a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement by consistently applying the most appropriate methodologies.
  • Achieve best-in-class Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) performance, embedding a safety-first culture across the operation.
  • Develop and maintain a high-performance culture through leadership teams at each site, consistently meeting daily operational excellence, performance, and productivity targets.
  • Build a valuable network of external contacts to support business growth and remain informed of best practices.

Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Must hold a CPC qualification. (National and International)
  • Extensive experience leading a customer-focused delivery operation, with a proven track record in driving performance improvements and operational excellence.
  • Strong logistics and supply chain experience across various levels of complexity.
  • Knowledge of the support services and contracts business model (including 3PL) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable expertise in customer relationship management.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a deep understanding of 'open/closed book' contract.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, manage conflict, and navigate complex Industrial Relations (IR) issues.
  • Proven success in building effective stakeholder relationships and influencing management teams to drive high performance through accountability and ownership.
  • Agile approach to strategy and planning, with a proven ability to adapt operational plans to changing customer needs while achieving commercial benefits.
  • Experience in change management, with a solid understanding of how to lead and manage teams through change.

The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel within the UK as necessary to ensure the effective management of the contract.
