We're currently seeking a dedicated water resources WINEP Senior Officer to lead projects in our Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP), based in Exeter. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the protection of water resources in the Devon and Cornwall area, working alongside a passionate team dedicated to sustainability. Joining us on a full-time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of up to £50,000 per annum plus excellent benefits.
About the role
As a Water Resources WINEP Senior Officer, you will be the technical lead responsible for managing and delivering water resources projects, primarily in Devon and Cornwall. You'll collaborate with various stakeholders including internal teams, contractors, regulators, landowners, and local authorities to improve the protection of rivers and groundwater resources. Your role will involve providing technical water resource expertise, facilitating planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure projects are delivered to time, quality, and budget parameters.
What you'll be doing:
- Provide specialist water resource advice and support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with policies, legislation, and best practices.
- Creating and reviewing technical documentation and reports to support operational activities and inform management decisions.
- Lead negotiations with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency and Natural England to obtain project approvals and protect company assets and ensuring regulatory oversight.
- Influence internal stakeholders to leverage capital asset improvements informed by WINEP.
- Develop long-term investigation programs to inform future WINEP water resource obligations, in consultation with internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key environmental stakeholders including key environmental stakeholders including Environment Agency, Natural England, local authorities, Defra, Water UK, Wessex Water, and with local stakeholders, including farmers, Wildlife Trusts, Rivers Trusts, and Local Nature Partnerships
- Support the development of the team by mentoring and training team members in specific areas of expertise.

What we are looking for:
- Knowledge of UK water industry environmental and water resources work.
- Technical expertise in any of the water resource competencies; hydrology, hydrometry, hydroecology, hydromorphology, and water resources management.
- Habitats Regulations Appraisal (HRA), SEA and Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessment and River habitat survey
- Experience in environmental regulation, sustainability, and operational requirements.
- Strong project and program management skills.
- Excellent stakeholder and partner management skills
- Valid driving license.
- Ability to effectively communicate water, environmental, and financial information.
- Genuine passion for environmental conservation.
