Job Introduction
Waste Manager - DSTL
We're looking for a proactive, safety-focused Waste Managerto lead operations across our units. You'll ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, manage team performance, control budgets and resources, and drive continuous improvement. Responsibilities include staff training, rota management, contractor oversight, and client liaison to maintain high service standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a strong safety culture aligned with company and client HSE procedures
- Oversee high-quality Waste Management (WM) service delivery across multiple sites
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and service level agreements
- Lead, manage, and motivate the WM team to meet performance targets
- Ensure staff are trained to the required skill levels
- Manage labour, equipment, and resource budgets in line with targets
- Handle staff management tasks including rotas, timesheets, return-to-work interviews, and investigations
- Manage third-party contractors to meet service expectations
- Drive continuous improvement across quality, cost, delivery, and safety
- Liaise with clients to maintain service excellence and seek improvement opportunities
- Attend off-site meetings and training as required
- Fulfil other reasonable duties as requested by line management
About You:
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including Waste Management
- Good numerical and written skills
- Able to speak & understand English
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Excellent people management skills
- A minimum of 2 years' experience with operational experience in managing waste in a commercial environment
- CIWM level 4 or equivalent would be preferable
- IT literate
- Able to work flexibly in line with business requirements including attending off site meetings
- Educated to a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- Full UK manual driving licence
