Salary: £37,815 - £43,083 per annum

Grade: E

Permanent Contract

37 Hours per Week

We are seeking a committed individual to join the Waste & Recycling Team as a Waste and Recycling Collection Team Manager. This is a varied role with frequently changing and challenging demands. You will work as part of a Team of four Team Managers committed to delivering an efficient Waste and Recycling service to the Resident and Customers of Thurrock.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Day to day responsibility for the management and monitoring of the Waste Collection Service offered by Thurrock Council, ensuring that collections are completed according to scheduled and within agreed budgetary and resource constraints.
  • To ensure that changes to the service as necessitated by changes in Council Policy, are well planned, implemented on time, within budget and with minimal to disruption to customers.
  • To ensure that waste collection services are operated in such a manner as to reduce the Council's reliance on disposing of waste through landfill.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and supervise teams working on different tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to build strong motivated teams.
  • An understanding of the need to make best use of resources available.
  • Personal credibility to work effectively with colleagues, managers and members of the public.
  • Self-motivated and able to foster a positive organisation culture.
  • Communicates clearly, simply and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Resilience and drive to meet the demands and pressures of the post including the ability to cope effectively at times of crisis.
  • Ability to establish, implement and maintain appropriate reporting frameworks.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative.

Key Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge of waste collection best practice and procedures.
  • Health and Safety regulations relating to the use of vehicles, plant, equipment and chemicals.
