Team Manager - Warehouse Operations (12 month Fixed Term Contract)

  • Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience
  • Location: Baginton, Coventry, UK
  • Working pattern - 4 days on and 4 days off, 8am to 8pm.

About the Role:

Join World of Books Group as a Warehouse Team Manager, where our values guide everything we do. In this key leadership role, you'll oversee the daily operations of our modern, high-volume warehouse, which integrates both automated and manual processes. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll lead a team of leaders to achieve exceptional results while fostering a collaborative, fast-moving, and customer-focused environment. Together, we'll deliver results, protect the environment, and put our customers at the heart of our work.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead a team of five leaders, promoting a culture of One Team by fostering trust, respect, and open communication.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to align team efforts with business goals and encourage professional growth.

Operational Performance

  • Drive achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across receiving, picking, packing, and dispatch functions.
  • Embrace our value to Simplify, Move Fast, and Deliver Results by optimizing productivity and minimizing unproductive hours.

Resource Planning & Budget Management

  • Plan resources effectively for each shift, using strong commercial acumen to align headcount with operational demands.
  • Collaborate with recruitment partners as needed to maintain a well-resourced team.

Customer Satisfaction

  • Ensure workflow supports delivery targets, prioritizing the customer experience in line with our commitment to being Customer Obsessed.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Uphold the highest standards of workplace safety, investigating incidents thoroughly and implementing improvements.

Collaboration with the People Team

  • Work closely with the People Team to manage timesheets, absences, recruitment, and contract offers, ensuring efficient workflow management.

Maintenance Oversight

  • Supervise on-shift engineers to ensure maintenance tasks are completed effectively, supporting smooth operations.

Employee Engagement

  • Champion employee engagement by actively addressing team concerns and encouraging a culture of respect and collaboration.

Candidate Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you'll need significant experience leading large teams in a fast-paced warehouse or retail environment. You should have a proven track record in optimizing performance, meeting high standards, and embodying our core values.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Leadership Experience: Proven ability to manage large teams and inspire high performance in a dynamic environment.
  • Resource Planning Expertise: Skilled in aligning headcount with operational demands and budgetary goals.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong focus on meeting KPIs and delivering measurable results.
  • Health & Safety Knowledge: Understanding of H&S procedures (IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH preferred).
  • Education: Maths and English at National Level 2 or equivalent.
