Ward Support Volunteer - Newcastle Hospice

Job Description

We are looking for Ward Support Volunteers to support patients and staff on our busy wards. You will spend time talking with patients and help them take part in activities which meet their interests and needs - this could be in a group or on an individual basis. You will also help staff with admin tasks and catering requirements.

Availability: 2-3 hours on weekdays

Time: Flexible to suit your schedule

Location: Marie Curie Hospice, Marie Curie Drive, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE4 6SS

Criteria: Minimum 18 years of age. A Criminal Record Check is required for this opportunity - Marie Curie will cover the cost of this.

What you'll do:

  • Spend time chatting with patients and learning about their interests
  • Plan and offer simple activities such as reading, card or board games, crosswords, or music
  • Enjoy refreshments with patients
  • Accompany patients to appointments, the garden, or communal areas (as approved by the Nurse in Charge)
  • Set out crockery and cutlery before meals and tidy away afterwards
  • Refill patients' water jugs
