• Provide expert clinical leadership to ensure a high standard of patient care
• Work closely and alongside community services to ensure best use of resources and management of in-patient beds

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Key Responsibilities
• Have 24-hour managerial accountability for the delivery of nursing care to patients on the ward.
• Ensure that the ward environment is maintained to a high standard.
• Assume line management and budgetary responsibility for nurses working on the ward.
• Be responsible for effective clinical and managerial communication systems to, from and within the ward.
• Provide expert clinical leadership to ensure a high standard of patient care.
• Work closely and alongside community services to ensure best use of resources and management of inpatient beds.
• Ensure the efficient use of nursing resources to meet identified needs and manage this within agreed annual budget. Participate in budget setting with Service Manager.
• Participate in line management supervision relating to business and performance with the Service Lead
• Report to the Modern Matron for all issues relating to Quality and Safety for the ward

Qualifications/Experience
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development
- Significant experience of working in Acute Inpatient Ward
Desirable criteria
- Masters or equivalent
Skills
Essential criteria
- Skills in developing and changing clinical practice and delivering clinical supervision
- Ability to manage effectively a revenue budget
- Ability to delegate and manage own time effectively and to produce pieces of work on time and to a high standard
- Ability to work with and lead MDT in clinical decision making.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Experience/ Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge of all relevant legislation associated with acute mental health inpatient care, including MHA, CPA procedures, Human Rights Act, , Child Protection
- Knowledge of contemporary issues in acute mental health care
- Management of violence and aggression/challenging behaviour
- Understanding of Acute Care pathway underpinned by theory and experience
