Job overview
An exciting opportunity as arisen to join our Learning Difficulty nursing team at Byron Court. You will work alongside our dynamic and welcoming team, along with MDT colleagues to provide ongoing support and care for service users.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the overseeing of assessments of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for clients with Learning disabilities, Autism, Asperger's. The post holder works under the overall supervision of the Team Manager/Matron and is required to undertake the duties of the post without direct supervision. Active participation will be required in the training and education of learners allocated to the LD service, and will also encourage integration between the ward team and the community services.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.
All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In liaison with the Clinical Lead/Matron, Service Manager and Director to set objectives for the delivery of care within the area and to devise ways of implementing and monitoring these.
2. To work closely with the Executive Nurse in developing nursing practice across inpatient wards.
3. To have knowledge/understanding of the legislation likely to be encountered as part of the role e.g. Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007, Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity act 2005, Access to Information Act 1986, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
4. To ensure full compliance with standards laid out in the Trusts care plan policy and procedure.
5. In coordination with the Clinical Lead/Matron, Service Manager and Director report and investigate incidents, complaints, accidents and ensure all appropriate documentation is completed and submitted to the Director as soon as possible after the incident.
6. Participate in and evaluate audit and research within the unit
7. To lead on infection control within the ward and ensure all Trust policies are adhered to
8. Inform Clinical Lead/Matron, Service Manager and Director on all breaches of nursing professional conduct as required by the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
9. To be responsible for updating own knowledge of contemporary learning disabilities & mental health services and a commitment to continuing one's own personal career development in line with Trust Appraisal and Development Policy.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered LD Nurse/RMN
- Experience as deputy Ward Manager or equivalent
- Evidence of personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
- Educated to Degree level in health
- Additional Professional Qualification

Essential criteria
- Ability to set clear objectives and targets and motivate staff to achieve them
- Ability to seek ways of improving individuals performance but training, coaching and development
- Develop team spirit and inclusivity
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of personal leadership development
